ADVICE: a friend dropped his Motorola v180 in a glass of water!
No insurance.
Removed lid, battery, etc. Drying out now.
Someone suggested he put it with silica gel packs for a couple of days and they might absorb any moisture.
Do you think the SIM card survived, even if the phone didn't?
What options does he have? He's early into his contract, so cancelling would be an expensive option.
To make matters worse: this is his only phone, and he had a ton of numbers stored on it.
Let's say the phone is ruined, but the SIM is ok. If he puts the SIM card into another GSM phone, will the stored numbers be there? Or are they not stored on the SIM?
Many thanks for any information you can provide.
2. Bury it
3. GET INSURANCE
4. Give it a nice funeral....don't forget the flowers.
5. FOR GOD'S SAKE GET INSURANCE!!!
6. Get an el cheapo Nokia and ride out the contract.
5. Did I mention GET INSURANCE?
7. Drink Vanilla Coke instead of water...it's surprisingly refreshing.
P.S.: ya might wanna look into some insurance for the new one. 😳
10.5 hours is too long to deal with customers BY MESELF!!! 😢
It was Vanilla Coke's original slogan...for about two weeks.

I was being kind... Personally, I don't drink the corporate sugar water, it's nasty, overpriced, wasteful of natural resources and extremely bad for you. With crapola like this around, it's no wonder Americans average the circumference of the average WWII era zeppelin... 😲
So what do you drink when you want something with flavor and alcohol's not an option? Granted sodas are REALLY unhealthy, but then again it seems that almost EVERYTHING else is too without some moderation. (And incidentally that lack of moderation is what's making the US the fattest nation EVER.) Besides after sitting in here all day dealing with the idiots that pass for customers in my area anything that's not nasty city water tastes great.

Iced tea. With fresh lemon. No sugar. 190mg of antioxidants per cup, lots of vitamin C and tastes lovely. Cheap, too, costs me about .25 per gallon to make, and lemons run 3-6/$1.00. Sometimes I go for Celestial Seasonings Blueberry Breeze green tea iced with a bit of honey, mmmmmm...

You're in the south, they do the sweet tea thing there, it's cool. I visited the Space Center in Huntsville and cruised around for a few days and it was definitely a culture shock to have wait staff ask if I wanted regular or sweet tea--the sheer civility of it all was a stunner. I'm more used to getting the fi...

Whot the 'ell have you been smokin' eh?
The SIM card probably did survive. Those little things are hard as hell to kill. Unless it's delaminated (separating into layers), melted, or broken in half, the SIM is fine.

But remember that under that card is gold coloured contact plate, and if that gets wet it does corrode fairly easily then its dead
😁 Whot the 'ell have you been smokin' eh?
That day the screen went, next day it was back and has been working ever since but probably has the little indicator inside changed to indicate it has water damage.
I used it way up north, past Fort Mac Alberta - out in the middle of the bush and w/ a little rigging of the antenna I was able to place calls -no one elses phone would work.
They might be ugly , but it can withstand whatever i can dish out at it and it still keeps ringing

Am I the only one here who's been wondering if dropping it in a 'glass of water' is a nice way of saying that he dropped it in the toilet?

3) Phone prices to replace the phone will vary by market, COR stores for a new phone $100 and up depending on your area, but you could pick up a refurb cheaper than that.
nobody mentioned BRE's
Check your locla COR sotre and they may have a couple Buyers Remorse phones on hand. A V180 BRE is $50
warranty shot her down in about thirty seconds, and was asked to stay on the line in case she has any questions.Whoo- for a lady she swore like a sailor!!!!
she asked for a credit, but her loyalty tool was $5.00, figured best not to offer, since thats a 100% escalation on that.Couldn't, she came with the usual "it was never like this before cingular took over" 🙄 🙄

Oh... My store does not have them..
Also includes a minimum average revenue of $75/mo. as well as no disconnects within the past six months. At least that's how it was explained to me.
A friend of Mine Washed his cellphone, a Nokia 3300, and it didn't work for 2 days, once it dried it worked like new, there's a water stain on the screen but otherwise it's in good shape still
