Thoughts on AT&T and their network

For thos of you that know Dallas / Fort Worth you will know this area well.

I have been looking in DFW for months now for my new stores and anytime I know I have calls to make in ther car I dread knowing I dont yet have my Verizon demo line.

In driving from Downtown Fort Worth to Grapevine I dropped my call 5 times! 5 times??!!?? Come on AT&T. I have a Blackberry Bold and everytime it drops I see the display dropping signal then picking up EDGE. This is the Metroplex. This is your corporate headquarters. My service actually worked great in Lubbock.

What is the worst is when I am in the car with the Verizon folks on a real estate drive and they are on the phone at the same time. I have witnessed hours of calls from them all ov...

This means AT&T cut the amount of commission you get as an authorized dealer? Maybe they found out that you also sell Verizon and got a little offended by the presence of the Big Red machine.

Have you ever considered it might be your beloved BB Bold? I've heard that phone has issues.

Try a nokia prepaid phone before you start crying. Or try to update the Bold's software.

Great response. And I have swapped my SIM to my Nokia N75 which is a great phone. Still drops in those same areas.

So funny how the minions turn on their own.

This means I am concerned for how the network performs in AT&T's backyard. Nothing more, nothing less. Considering I am nowhere near the first to post these concerns I am surpirsed you simply write it off as someone who is jaded.

I appreciate competition. It creates more business for me as an agent.

I don't think so. Remember there is competition to get dealers as well as customers.

texaswireless has definitely not experienced the backhand of Verizon.
* low quality phones
* Up and down commissions- mostly down

But Verizon's customers believe that Verizon has the best network, the best phones and the best customer service. They drink a special kool-aid that calls it great customer service that Verizon was willing to swap out their chocolate 4 times in the warranty.

I am not sure what you are basing the "up and down of commissions, mostly down" statement. Before I made the switch I did my homework and have many peers who own Verizon stores. In 8 years they have not had their commission drop.

I really don't know what's going on, but my phone kept switching from 3G to EDGE to all kinds of weird stuff over the weekend. I'd be browsing and I'd see the phone fluctuate from 3G to EDGE then to GSM (lost connection on GSM of course) then, this is when it got really weird. The phone will then switch to gsm (lower case) then to GSM or edge, then back to EDGE and 3G. I guess theywere tuning something, cuz in the almost 2 months I've had the Bold I never once saw it switch to GSM or gsm.
I've noticed a few dropped calls while on the Bold/3G, now my mighty GSM/EDGE SE k790a still represents when it comes to call quality and clarity.

Texas has been a hard core loyal at&t owner/fan/user for so long, even before I started this. He has contributed more worth wile info on this site than any of you put together. I just love how everyone has turned on him and it just goes to show you how lame you all are. Burger Time please stop talking out of you a$$. I gladly except him over to Vz where he will make serious money and have to deal with very few issues because VZ is just that much better. As a previous Cingular and now Vz agent owner I must say welcome and leave these tools behind. And guys it don't matter how much you polish a pile of crap in the end it is still crap

How? My friend has AT&T there and HATES it. And he doesnt have a iPhone or Bold. He has a BlackJack. Hes switching to Verizon when his contract is up next month. His call is always getting droped and he lives next to a Verizon and AT&T tower.

I did not start this thread for it to become one of the many flame wars here. I was trying to point out to many here that AT&T's reported issues here in Texas are not just bitter people venting.

I enjoyed my AT&T service in West Texas as well. They have gaps in their network in their own backyard. I provided examples. I provided examples of how Verizon does not have the same issues.

I hope AT&T resolves them because competition is a good thing.

Not really. I actually did this to be closer to family in the Dallas area. Grandparents, cousins, wife's long time friends, etc. all live in DFW.

I was actually very happy with AT&T in West Texas. Our stores in Lubbock performed well in most all metrics and I was trying to get El Paso up to the same levels I had in Lubbock. AT&T did some not so morally ethical things on my way out but that is another story for another day. Everything from my side was above board. I even approached AT&T about DFW opportunities before I contacted Verizon. AT&T just doesn't want more store in DFW (I don't blame them, too many now) and no one wants to sell.

AT&T network has completely dumned Down. Im not bashing them in anyway I love there services! But not there network. Ive had many phones on this network including the iPhone. And service signal wise is awful there phones show full bars but drop calls and sometimes fail to connect to the network. Ive read somewhere that this is what AT&T does to show superior coverage but I don't if its actually true. Why AT&T? why?

It is a wireless network. Nothing is perfect. Could be anything. The phone, the service, location. Everything. All wireless providers have the same issue. People need to learn that. It is not a landline, but a "Wireless phone."

I have been in the industry for 16 years. Rather than just tag posts here and there as you did with the "Blue" customer (in the thread it was already asked and answered about his plan and origins, he isnt a blue customer) you might choose to actually READ the post and the comments.

You are like the guy who buts into the conversation mid-stream and laughs at the joke just made. Not because you got the joke, but because you don't want to look like a fool for not laughing like everyone else.

I'll agree with you Tex. As an owner of AT&T agent locations I am disappointed in AT&T. AT&T has been in this area far longer then VZ has. Recently with the purchase of WV Wireless and Alltel, I have seen VZ put up 6 new cell sites on my drive to my stores. Areas that AT&T has a gap in coverage actually. Yet VZ can come in and throw up a network in 6-9 months thats better. Its inexcusable and by the time the market saturates and AT&T begins to hemorrhage customers it will be too little too late for them to repair their network.

One small correction - Dallas/Ft Worth area really isn't ATT's backyard. Cingular was headquartered in Atlanta, they moved HQ to Dallas/Ft Worth after taking the ATT name to combine with the landline HQ that was already there.

This really has nothing to do with your post, and does nothing to address the concerns raised in your post, and in all reality, ATT's service may suck in Atlanta too, but I just wanted to throw that little tidbit of completely useless information out there. 😉

Haha it's all good man!

AT&T moved their headquarters from San Antonio up the the Legacy area of Plano (North of Dallas for those following at home). The head of the Central Region and the Regional President all office there as well. AT&T also has other offices here where Mr. Stephenson has his office as well.

Not sure where Mr. De la Vega offices now. You are probably right that it is Atlanta.
