Exchanged the Bold
My question is. Could this be why at&t is allocating GSM? To make sure us on 3g get a stronger signal, preventing us to fall back on edge9
How could I find out if my market (Tampa Bay) has been allocated already?
Or could my issue be somehow related to the convertion Telegence is the whole state of Fl?
Everyone I talk to says my phone should hold on to 3G for dear life and only switch to EDGE when 3G is not aval. I really don't know what to think of this anymore

My phone was activated at best buy. I took it to the att store two days after I got it because if this
🙄 STOP GOING TO BEST BUY TO PURCHASE CELL PHONES!!!
And if you do go to Best Buy, please don't bother the salesmen at ATT. There's a reason why they can sell their phones for cheap. They don't train their employees up to ATT standards. So next time, if you want less hassle, try paying a little extra for the right service.
Wal Mart may do oil changes for 15 dollars, but i'd rather pay an extra 10 to let someone do it right the first time.
I hope your problem gets better.

Actually, I don't drop calls when it switches to Edge. I think it's wonderful that everytime you post a new thread, it is a different family member who you switch to Vz. You must really be IN with all of them. However, none of what you posted helps me or anyone else in the forum.
That's because GSM networks use GPRS for data instead of an integrated system that ties up the phoneline while either are in use. Had he done a nickel's worth of research before posting his reply, he'd have known this, and not made a jackass out of himself.
My friend who lived in St. Louis with me had an iPhone, moved up to Chicago for college and could not use her phone in her doorm or classes. She switched back to Verizon and is able to make calls and use data.
You want a perfect network, get Verizon. Its the most reliable netwrok.
Verizon has far better coverage in the US then any other service. Now your being annoying. o read about all teh network outages and crap on AT&T. Verizon is by far the most reliable network, and when I went to CT i had better service then my mom who use to have AT&T.
But, when my Uncle comes to see our family here in Alabama
Wow. That...

This happens alot. Your not the only person this happens to. Its more than likely the horrible 3G network AT&T has. I bet when it dropps your call sometimes when it switches from 3G to EDGE too huh? My Uncle had AT&T in Shreveport, LA and had a Bold and it did the same thing. He droped AT&T all together. He went to Verizon is wating for there verison of the Bold.
I hope your problem gets better.
GSM uses separate systems for voice and data. They use GSM for voice and GPRS for data. You don't drop calls when you have data issues on GSM networks.
If your "uncle" was having such a problem, it was the device and not the network.

My uncle lives in Shreveport, and the same issue with the Samsung Omnia. He actually lives right next to your uncle and works at the same place.
Anyways, he dropped Verizon altogether, and switched to AT&T. He didn't have to wait for the Omnia, because it is already out for other GSM n...

When AT&T improves there 3G network, expands there coverage, gets some good ratings, and stops dropping calls all the time, then AT&T fanboys can start talking. 😁
Unfortunately, if they do start getting good ratings from companies like JD Power the way Sprint just did, you guys will still make excuses instead of congratulating them- just like you are doing to Sprint now.
UNPROVEN BS STATEMENT:
