I know that there are signal repeaters, but is there such a device that can generate a small enough signal is an area where at&t does not have coverage?

if so what are the best GENERATORS.

thanks

Nothing currently available that can create signal where none exists to begin with.

Tell me more about your situation. Is this a building? Signal outside? Wilson Electronics makes some good products for boosting low signal or for boosting signal.

I'll jump on this bandwagon... We don't, never have, had good service in our house.

I vaguely remember reading something somewhere, about ATT having some type of thing coming out to boost signals for just this sort of problem.

It's called a femtocell, AT&T is testing it now.

If you have a high speed Internet connection and some patience, this might be what your looking for.

manage an att retailer and i just moved out (almost) in the sticks. I get coverage about 500 ft outside from the house I'm at

i was thinking about trying out the signal booster that thinkgeek.com sells.

Pretty sure I'm just going to have to wait for femtocells to come to at&t. d'oh

What phone are you using?

Since it's not working well try a Motorla, try turning 3G off.
Maybe ATT's EDGE coverage is stronger than their 3G in your area?

There are a ton of GSM Moto's on E-bay.

A femtocell is a small cellular base station, typically designed for use in residential or small business environments. It connects to the service provider’s network via broadband (such as DSL or cable); current designs typically support 2 to 5 mobile phones in a residential setting. A femtocell allows service providers to extend service coverage indoors, especially where access would otherwise be limited or unavailable.
AT&T will have these available for purchase late Q2

This is what im going to have to utalize and until then ill just tough it out without my mobile at home...

Also, any unbranded or unlocked GSM femtocells available in the market now?

I don't think they will be going UMA. I hope everyone at AT&T will learn from T-Mobile in the fact that you have to get a UMA compatible phone... people just don't want to hear that.

Remember: AT&T loves the iPhone. They want their customers to be able to use the iPhone anywhere, and since it doesn't have UMA... I'm sure they'll go with femtocell.
