I was in a store the other day...yes their phones still suck. (with the exception of the same smartphones that are also available with GSM carriers.

So why don't you like the EnV2? It might not be a sleek phone, but I know a lot of people (myself included) who love that phone.

It's all a matter of personal preference. I just simply don't care for the EnV2. I also don't like The Blackberry Storm, I don't like the iPhone, and I don't like the HTC G1 phones.

I take pride in ATT's claim of best GLOBAL coverage.
As usual VZW is out of line with the rest of the world, hence CDMA.
Where as ATT is WORLD mainstream, hence GSM.
Plus I really hate how VZW locks their phones down.

CDMA ain't bad for people like me who never go overseas. But if you are one of those international travelers, get GSM.

true.

overall though vzw may be the largest carrier now.

but even with GSM you still have freedom handset wise. even if you like a cdma phone; there usually always is a GSM version (usually with better features)

and andy is exactly correct about the crippleware verizon corrupts their phones with =P

Storm and Renown BOTH work more places then quad-band GSM-only devices (think 3G Japan).

Your argument will disappear very, very quickly as multi-frequency technologies like those used in these devices become cheaper and cheaper to mass-produce. Heck, these phones are already cheap enough to be readily available to anyone who has enough money to be traveling outside the country more then once a year, since they're both less then $200.00 with a 2yr program. ...

Couple that with the LTE conversion which will put all carriers on the same roaming footprint for 4G (except for Sprint) worldwide and it almost doesn't matter at all.

Don't get too comfortable with that ONE argument. It's going the way o

You won't find me opening new VZW posts in the AT&T forum, but I have no problem responding to anyone's statements- regardless of forum propriety.

And with regards to THIS prticular topic, I think it's completely reasonable for the OP to wonder how AT&T employees are responding to the VZW/Alltel developments. Can't do that elsewhere on this forum, can you?

They are still number one at locking their phones down too. Just returned the Storm. Locked down GPS, stipped out Wifi, and $1.99 music downloads vs. .99 from the iTunes store.

Seems like they use the middle finger for letting us know they are number one.

Verizon is so great they don't bother to show you how strong their signal is in your area. All they show is coverage, they don't show you if it's weak coverage or strong coverage. AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile DO show you where you have signal AND how good it is. Verizon only shows that you have signal, even if it sucks. I found this out the hard way. So there.

we havent done that for almost 2 years, so try again.

and all the arguments as to why vzw is not suitable for you are lame and nit picking. I appreciate those here who stated they prefer att because it works well for them, but those who say we lock down our handsets ( no more than att does in reality ) and those who stated our UI is terrible ( never interferes with making a phone call, sending a message or using things for free ) are nit picking and it is sooooo lame.

95% of the customers out there dont care if they can not blue tooth a ringt...

#1 - I cited my sources on the "this year" portion, so yeah, THIS YEAR.

#2 - I didn't say ANYTHING about Verizon being bad for anyone. I said I was curious to see how this might effect their churn.

You responded to 5 different people's points to me. You might respond to them instead but I have proved you wrong on the points made by ME.

And by the way, on the math, if 95% of the people are happy then by logic 5% are not happy. If Verizon had 5% churn they would shoot themselves. So are those 5% unable to switch because of the auto-contract extensions? Are only 4% locked in even though they are unhappy and the other 1% got lucky?

Or did you just make up that statistic?

Though you may be used to hearing Alltel boast of its consumer-friendly policy that enables users to change their plan at anytime without requiring a contract extension, now would be a good time to gear up for lots of similar chatter from Verizon. Reportedly, Verizon Wireless will soon allow its users to change up their plans mid-contract without asking them to sign on for any additional time, which should thoroughly excite those customers who've been regretting their plan decision since day two. So go on, Verizon customers, start scoping out which plan best fits your current lifestyle, because the new rule goes into effect on October 7th....

well then I guess I was wrong for switching to Verizon and then switching back to AT&T after realizing that Verizon sucks in my area compared to AT&T. Verizon does not have good coverage in my area. That and you are obviously a VERIZON FANBOY so of course my argument (BASED ON ACTUAL EXPERIENCE) would be weak in your opinion.

I must admit that AT&T does have it's dropped calls, but all in all, coverage is pretty good. I also have to comment that the comercials are much better that vrw. I hated the one about the verizon sale that the lady stuck the other one in the neck. In my opinion that was just very bad taste.

p.s. I'm new to adding to the forum but not reading it. Hi all!

Just because they have more subscribers, doesn't mean they came voluntarily. It's not like all those customers ran out to sign up with VZW. Granted, market share is gained in acquisitions by all carriers, but just because they have more users now doesn't mean they are any better today than they were yesterday. They still have the same negatives today that they did for the acquisition. Now they just affect more people that had NO INTENTION of becoming VZW customers.

Most of what you said is subjective. "Amazing phone line up". I know true VZW fanbois that would argue that with you. They have probably the most lackluster lineup and most locked down devices than any carrier in the industry. Also, VZW may be the best where you are, but for many people, VZW doesn't give them the best service. So again, if you quit thinking like a fanboy you'll see that I'm not knocking VZW in my previous statement. I'm simply pointing out that buying more subscribers doesn't make you the number one network. It just gives you the most subscribers. Who cares if they have a bazillion subscribers if their service doesn't work well where you live?

I don't understand why people have to be such fanboys over a carrier. They all ...

I have to say, although VERIZON may be the largest carrier (customer wise), it still carries a smaller network than AT&T does. AT&T offers the flexibility to take a cruise to the bahamas or any land owned by the US without charging the customer. I know when I had verizon I had to pay quite a bit and change my phone so it would work when I went to the Bahamas. Hmmm, why spend the money? Oh well, Verizon can have the most customers lets hope that they can get the network to support that many, seeing as how AT&T has claims to alltels towers. 🤣

AT&T is laying claims to Alltel's GSM towers? I hope so, this would mean we get coverage in the DAKOTAS! EEEEE! This is awesome!
