ATT Wireless Cut off service prematurely / maliciously

Got Waxed by ATT

Aug 8, 2008, 11:18 PM
I decide to change providers. Am going with T-mobile (for UMA service). My order from T-moile shipped today. ATT cut my phones off tonight just after their call center closed. Also blocked my web access to my account info. The account comes up as cancelled. I paid through the 15th of August. Tonight is the 8th. My numbers have not been ported yet to T-mobile. I should receive the phones for my family on Tuesday the 12th. What right does ATT have to treat my famly this way? Have they left my entire family all without service for 4 days because they are mad at us for going with antoher provider? I paid my bill in full every month for over 25 months. My obligation under the ATT contract expired July 8th. 🙂 I'm trying to keep a good attitude. ...

Did you tell AT&T you were canceling? It's also possible although T-Mobile hasn't shipped your phones the port is complete. I'd recommend calling the after hours number, I don't know it off hand but if you call the regular number and listen they'll give it to you.

Never post when angry. My lesson to myself. I blamed AT&T and I should have blamed the people at Let's Talk for screwing up the porting process timing. AT&T just did what they were supposed to. Still my family is without service for several days. Let's Talk is a third party provider. They screwed up the timing of the number porting and so now my shipment is at a FedEx sort facility with 4 activated phones in the box. To AT&T I apologize. To Let's Talk & T-mobile I say this is no way to start a relationship with a new customer.

Ahhh the downfall of third party buying...plus the crap u have to keep on the account to purchase the phones for six months without being charged full price of the phone to the credit card..

According to the folks at Let's Talk they submit a "porting request" to the carrier. They tell T-mobile to request a date of the 12th. T-mobile submits that to ATT & either T-mobile submitted the wrong date or ATT dumped my numbers & account instantly. ATT managed to get rid of me in their system in about 6 hours. Yet their service rep continued to tell me that they couldn't do anything for 72 hours. I wish I knew who really screwed this up. But I have a feeling now that my original post was right & someone at ATT malciously ported my numbers prematurely. Still waiting for all 4 of my families phones. They should arrive tomorrow.

its all completely automated so it looks like t-mobile requested the port early. Wants it requests the port and then acknowledges the receipt of the request then the account gets cancelled.

I got the same plan & features as if I ordered directly from T-mobile. I was sent a T-mobile contract to sign via e-mail. I get the phones tomorrow. I'll let you all know if there is any problem with them.

and just to reemphasize what ccareatatt said, be sure to read all of the paper work that comes with the phones. be sure to check that they won't charge you if you need to change your plan or add or remove features. be sure to check the phones and that they are co branded with the carrier logo and in a carrier branded box. reason being if you have a warranty issue and buy from let's talk and it isn't a carrier co branded phone then you would need to deal with the manufacture for warranty issues. (i tell you this to lessen future frustration)

Very true, sounds like T-Mobile completed the port process a little early. If ATT had cancelled your lines, T-Mobile would not have been able to port them over - they have to be active to complete the port process.

Also notice time of original posting, that may be the only time he can get on.

However on the other hand, I do believe he was wrongfully blaming AT&T.

I'm thinking he just blew it out of proportion like most wireless customers. He probably has almost no idea how it works which is surprising since 95% of people don't know.

Wow how fast we go to blame someone else for what happens. Well just to let you know bro at&t can't port your number to t-mobile. T-mobile has to start the port process. At&t also won't just cancel your phones. They aren't gonna just cancel you because you are leaving. They could care less. There is 79 million cust that they have and they get more everyday. SO don't feel too special and think there is some cell phone nerd in a basement sitting there saying "how can i mess up some ones day today, oh I know I can cancel there without them knowing" how lame is that. I hope everything works out and I hope you don't get screwed by t-mobile. Who the heck would come on here and openly admit to switching to t-mobile anyways... LAME!!! 😎

Because it is easy to assume that in this cold, heartless world.

Funny how we have never heard from them again. Some people's children.

Amazing - no further word from the ranter.

Ports do have a tendency every now and then of messing up, no matter how diligent we are in entry. Those cases are rare - it is still my bet that it was the error of either the dealer or T-Mo.
