Dear AT&T Customer, ÂÂ
We received your request to unlock your device, but the manufacturer was unable to provide a code for the IMEI provided. The information submitted in the request appears below:
ÂÂ
IMEI: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Make: Nokia
Model: 6682
ÂÂ
You can verify your device’s IMEI number by pressing *#06# from your main screen. If the IMEI is incorrect, please contact customer service at 800-331-0500 to provide the correct IMEI. Once we receive this information, we would be more than glad to submit a new request.
ÂÂ
If the IMEI provided is correct it could mean your device as either already been unlocked...

Things were a lot harder when I tried to get the unlock code for my w810 from AT&T though. This second time they asked for copies of everything related to the purchase. I mean, gosh. I almost thought they were going to ask for the name of the rep who sold the phone to me. They denied my second request because "I didn't pay retail price for the phone" I got that response after sending like 3 emails back and forward. After that, I decided to only buy my phones unlocked.

Gee, that flies in the face of reps here who claim that you can get the unlock code after X amount of time.
Looks like At&t are up to their old tricks yet again.
I, and many many others here, have always said you can get an unlock code for specific reasons. One is that is has to be purchased at an unsubsidized price. If they don't have a receipt they have no obligation to give you the unlock code.
Are you related to Chubby Checker?

Specific reasons now? You also have said:

I am also telling you that Cingular allows you to unlock your handset to use as you will.
....
The good thing is that Cingular allows their subsidy lock to be removed.

I same the same thing every single time. Every single time.
Did he tell them he fulfilled the agreement? He was out of the country Mr. Short Term Memory, hard to fulfill an agreement that way.

Sounds like he had the documentation they requested.
They denied his petition because he didn't pay retail price for the phone.
If the situation were as you describe, despite the constant stream of consumers who have the very same issues unlocking their phones to this day, wouldn't they have simply informed ...

I wish you good luck. I had no problems whatsoever getting the unlock code from Cingular for my w600. I had gotten that phone from a coworker, so all I had to do was send the request with the IMEI, and my phone number.

Wouldn't you agree?

Having to resort to a third party to do the things At&t are unwilling to do themselves is a testament to how little regard At&t has for their customers.
Wouldn't you agree?
Not really. ATT allows all customer to buy any phone they want and use it on their network. If THEY sell a phone at reduced prices I would say they are well within their rights to keep the subsidized phone branded,
We have a choice to buy unlocked in the first place. People want their cake and eat it to.
If you really want to see Carrier control port to Verizon.....Soon after a branded ATT phone won't look so bad...

Even when the subsidy offered has been offset by the customer fulfilling their contract?
I'd hate to think what the implications of every item you purchase still belonging to the seller of that item simply because they offered a discount.

NO the phone BELONGS to you. You bought an ATT BRANDED phone, You now own an ATT BRANDED PHONE,
Live with the phone you bought in the first place. ATT is under no obligation to unbrand THEIR phone you agreed to buy. If they do it its a COURTESY not a right.

They subsidized the cost of the ohone. You did not pay for it.
🙄
The subsidy is offered by agreeing to a contract term. Once you have met the contract terms, the fact that you bought the phone with a subsidy is irrelevant.
If you have met the contract terms, and are unable to use your phone on another compatible network then you have essentially rented the phone and it never was your property to begin with.

It.s not like you cannot use any phone on their network.
Instead of whining. Spend for what you want in the first place and DON'T sign a contract after the initial deal. There is NO valid reason to.
The subsidies on phones are a joke. Anyone who canot afford to buy a $200 phone but will buy a cup of $3.00 designer coffee everyday has their priorities messed up.
You DO have a choice, Use it.
If Nokia does not have an unlock code for the handset he can send it in and they will flash the handset and reload the software unlocked.
At&t are creating the conditions for these problems to exist in the first place.

You are ignoring the fact that Nokia locks the handsets at the behest of At&t.

Knowing that YOU STILL BUY TYHE PHONE!!!! YOUR bad not ATT. I know that and because of that I choose to buy unlocked phones.
ATT is within their rights to do whatever they want to a phone they sell at subsidized prices for those who don';t want to or cannot afford the phone otherwise. No one does this more than Verizon. Deal with it. OR take personal responsibility and buy your phone unlocked and don't sign a contract. Its YOUR choice. Act on it.
