LG Shine in black Who cares?

Sony K850i Buy it unlocked unbranded now
Camera is not 5mp quality

LG Vu Better late than never

This is a less than exciting line up for the upcoming months.

Now the Nokia N95-3 (also better unbranded unlocked) would be nice as well as the new BB 9000.

Thank you for the updates though--

Yeah, the Sony reps are saying ATT canned it because it was too expensive, and we were told to destroy the K850 pop we got today. I'm willing to bet it's gone.

Ya if at&t will not release the k850 because it is to expensive then their is no way in hell they are going to release the n95. I bet the nokia reps were told another n series device is on the way and they assumed it was the n95 because of its band for 3g. However their was another n series phone that just got fcc approval and I bet that is the phone we will get.

The problem will be getting the phone subsidized cheaper then one can already buy one discounted from retail!!!

The N95 coming out is the N95-3. It'll be out 2nd quarter.

We just got POP for the k850. It is being picked up by our market. I did hear some markets opted out of having it for one reason or another. Expensive phones will sell if marketed right. Take the iPhone for example. Everyone said it was to expensive, but look how that is selling.

Everyone got POP for the k580i. We were also told to destroy it. The iPhone is a special situation controlled by Apple. You can't compare any other phones to that thing.

Apple didn't force anyone to buy the phone at that price. People choose to spend the money, so that shows other devices at that price point will sell provided they are marketed correctly.

Apple has a corner of the market. Any market. Anything they put their name on or put i in front of will be popular. It's inevitable. Sony Ericsson could not create that kind of hype if they wanted. The only other company right now that could pull that off would be Google.

Thats not true.

Here are a few Failures Apple did not corner the market on.
Apple TV
g4 Cube
Apple Pippin
Apple III (recalled)
Rokker (Yep Apple and Moto were together on that one.)

Newton, Lisa, Failed in the market place.

All products during John Scullys reign.

Exactly......

however the subsidy on the N82 or N95 would be a couple hundred dollars. You can get that much of a discount of MSRP now!!

Buy phones offline and pay month to month until or unless the Carrier offers a phone you really really want AND you can save enough to make it worth while.

Anyone can buy a K850 already. Many have...

Just got myself N82 yesterday for $429 - after extra $50 off. Life is good.

Now all we need is for Congress to force carriers to explicitly "unbundle" their service costs from their phone subsidies.

Since you're posting this in the AT&T forum, it's irrelevant. AT&T doesn't require you to sign any form of contract for customer owned equipment. You're talking about Congress forcing AT&T to do something that they already do. This is what's called a waste of taxpayer's money.

There are some lower data prices that require a contract like the laptop connect or iPhone packages, but there's an uncontracted laptop price and I'm sure a higher priced iPhone package will come out eventually.

@ Ralph,

I believe you are wrong on that. When I originally signed with ATT/Cingular back when it was still Cingular I had my own phone. I was forced to sign a 2yr contract even with that phone. If I am wrong please set me straight.

It's one of two things:

1) Current policies required a two year contract.

2) The person helping you lied to you in order to make more money.

It was likely the second though. Whenever they required contracts for weird things it was usually an 11 month.

Why do the phone companies continue to have subsidized phone prices? It is a marketing ploy that is beyond its time since the market has matured.
Why don't you just sell all phones at a open market competitive price, you would still make money because your buying power would allow for a cheaper cost to you. You can still insist on a contract whether the customer gets the phone from you or another supplier, there is nothing illegal with that. You really need to consider getting rid of the "free phone", that way your customer base doesn't feel its having to pay for someone else's deal.

I wish that was more common. About 70% of my customers come in asking for "the free phone". They don't care what it does or doesn't do, nor the quality of it. However, 70% is less common than it was five years ago.

Agreed, and those are the same customers that come in and ask "I need a durable, camera, video, bluetooth, non crappy, really good cheap phone". I hate that statement. They want a phone that won't break but don't want to pay anything for it. If you want it to not break spend some ****ing money. $100 will do you wonders in the cell phone industry. Nothing incredible but will last your two years at least. $100 is not that much to ask for something that you use for your 'bidness', it's your only phone, and you can't live without.

They also sent POP to the stores. It's obviously a last minute bone headed decision. I don't think we know the real reason yet. I doubt it's cost, but you never know.

It's not funny...

Seriously, I was hoping I would have more of a European (real) mobile phone model to sell this summer.

Hopefully this Nokia PDA comes out soon.

Sick of the same old same old.

Sidenote-

It's got to be cost, if they are cancelling it at all, I believe you guys, but our RAE keeps telling our company not to worry, and is aware of the Corporate POP being ordered to be destroyed.

We shall see

If you want something like that the best chance is to buy unlocked, I did, much happier.

I understand sick of the same old same old. When I first got into it I bought a new phone every month. Excited to get something new. Then I realized it's the same **** in a different box. 1.3 MP camera, microSD card, bluetooth, same old garbage. Then I bought unlocked and it will take a really nice phone to get me to buy from the company.

I'm indirect agent and we got the POP too. Our RAE doesn't know what happens with phone. He does a good job on the numbers and such but theres a reason he visits my store first when doing his rounds, so he can get a list of what may be coming. He hadn't heard of the k850i, he just had a note to toss the POP. He ...

I know....

I just want to carry a mobile device that we sell, because alot of customers ask me what phone I use.

It was to the point where my company basically made me carry a Curve, because I pushed the Sony 810, and then the 580 non-stop....(I don't like returns)

I'm a big fan of our phones we carry now, I see a benifit from all of them and am glad basically all can play music, 3G, and good cameras.

But the Next level of phones is going to launch soon with the Feature goal raised, I see more PDA's all in One phones comming out.

Your REP is like ours it sounds like.

I myself, have been selling all the Pearls, because it won't be long to the Avg. Joe customer knows that the WI-FI version is comming out. I've almost sold th...

Ah, and my store takes care of this. When you start shift grab a phone, pop in your SIM, and use it all day so you can recommend it. Don't trash it, don't damage it, don't scratch it and put it back at the end of the day. Otherwise, it's sold as is at discount. With the recent stream of commercials I foresee the demise of the cell phone and everyone carrying a PDA or Blackberry. It may take awhile for the people too far past the point of using these to not use cell phones anymore but as we grow older the new users will ALL want PDAs and the existing crowd is switching. We've got a few flop phones I'm trying to clear out, Samsung A717 and 727 mainly, good phone that didn't go anywhere, that and the N75. The rest of the idiot staff only likes...

I would pop my sim card in a phone everyday..

Great Idea, But Then I can't use my new phone (if i got one unlocked) and I have to use a store phone.

Example, All my emails, text, and web browsing I do all day with Opera Mini....It would be a pain everyday to clear out the phone I used.

I've thought of this, may end up doing it, and buying a k850 unlocked, even though its still pricey for someone like me staying out of debt and saving money, because the economy is ****ty and I want to be protected.

THE PDA........could be the demise of regular phones, IF.....the consumers get used to much higher phone bills. Most people have already and have all types of media bundles on their accounts, which means more money for us and a consume...
