PDAs on AT&T's Network

I am looking for an all-in-one device that is capable of being activated with or without a data plan. I was looking at getting a Pearl, but I am not sure if I want to constantly pay the $29.99 a month for the data. What is the best PDA on AT&T that can be activated with or without a data plan? I would like to be able to access my work emails from it, but then drop the data at a later date. Is that possible? Thanks in advance!

Because they've done their homework and they see the garbage phones that are offered by other carriers.

🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 ok there..... think what you want.....

Ok, I'll bite. Lets use Sprint as an example. Name a pda that is worse than the AT&T counterpart......

Seriously though, that was pretty weak. Does that work when you sell PDA's to idiots?

🤨 No, Sprint doesn't carry them..... I only carry personal phones......I moved on to greener pastures.....

But on to your argument....Bringing up exact models is stupid. I said comparable models.... I didn't start by shouting about the lack of an AT&T Touch, so grow up and argue like a man, not a fanBOY.

Sprint's EVDO has been around a lot longer and is in more places. It's also less expensive, as is their voice pricing. Sprint's Pearl makes AT&T's Pearl look like a firefly.

You really want to compare Sprint to AT&T or Verizon? Sprint is no longer the powerhouse it used to be. They used to have the coolest phones and features first. This is no longer the case.

The phones you mentioned, The Touch & Pearl 2, were both available in GSM first and anyone can buy buy one unlocked and use them on AT&Ts network. AT&T just elected not to carry them, but that's but beauty of GSM. You can buy unlocked.

Who cares if EVDO is in more places? It a dying technology. Even your precious Sprint is moving to WiMax. You original question was about comparable phones. None of them compare to AT&Ts HSDPA selection. Bring me a Sprint PDA or Smartphone that can do voice and data at the same time, and then we'll have this debate. 🙂...

Ummm, the Palm 700wx and Motorola Q were laggy, and the Centro has a crappy battery life and wouldn't acknowegde the memory card, and I tried 2 or 3 of them.

I added an additional line to my Cingular account through Best Buy and they didn't require me to add a data plan to the line when I bought a Blackberry Curve.

That's the only one of my 4 lines that was not done through a corporate store. Too soon to feel if there's any difference yet!

I recently did a lot of research and found the best pda with decent bells and whistles (camera, voice activation, microSD chips, etc. with top speed). For less than $300 it was on eBay and was an AT&T or Cingular 8525 I actually bought two - do you want one of them?). It does all you would want it to do. I'm stunned by how much it can do like my desktop computer.

As for the plan. You want two things. First, you want it unlocked. Second, use the AT&T GoPhone plan. You pay $25 every 3 months and it rolls over to retain any not used. You only pay for actual calls you make. If you use it for Internet service, you only pay for the amount of data you actually download at $.05 / Kb (I think). This lets you use it when you want and let it sit at ...

I have heard alot about the 8525. What about the TILT, its replacement? Is it a step forward or backward from the 8525? Reading the reviews you get a mixed signal.

I can't really help you with this one. I don't have experience with the Tilt, other than looking at one.

However, a quick search online showed me there is really very little difference. The only differences I could find were:
1. Tilt = 3Mpixal camera, 8525 = 2Mp
2. Tilt versus flat slide out qwerty keyboard
3. Tilt - one ad said up to 32GB microSD card
8525 will take a 2 GB (I know) but I don't know what the top end limit is.
4. Finally, Price. Both on the open market from dealers are $400 to $500, but at eBay the Tilt goes for $400 to $700 while the 8525 goes for $250 to $300 - guite a difference for about the same phone.

As for tilting the screen, I made a small plastic folding stand that holds the phone up at a good angle, s...
