switch from their $40 data plan to the $20 media net plan or whatever they're called? I want to sign up for a 2-year contract with them with the data plan to get the free or heavilly discounted phone but I don't need to pay $40 for the data plan. I heard somewhere you can login to their site with your account and just change it. is it just that easy? thanks

You can change your plan easily, but the $20 plan isn't meant for a PDA which I know is what you want. If you try and use that plan, they'll remove it from your account and you'll be liable for the per kilobyte charges.

Same thing. The Blackjack requires the PDA connect.

If you ask Samsung, they will tell you the Blackjack is a Smartphone(which would require the 19.99 smartphone connect for unlimited data...if you ask cingular thwy will tell you that it is a PDA and requires PDA connect....

If you want to take advantage of the Cingular video you will need either a media max plan or the PDA plan to access it, smartphone connect wont give you access to cingy video.....

If you go with a media max plan, my advice would be to have another phones IMEI put on your account instead of the blackjack's....and make sure you hang on to your invoice for warranty purposes with the phone.

I had a customer who did the same thing, used 300 mb of data and was charged the per kb charge..just a little over 3000 dollars...and you know what, since there were notes all over the place in his account advising him not to do it. Customer service and our store told him they were valid charges and he would have to set up a payment plan. I can't stand the schumks who want the cool stuff, but don't want to pay the associated fees for it. If you don't want to shell out 40 bucks a month, cool. But then don't even whine when you are told the device costs 3 times as much. Better yet, just stick with your 2 devices anyway.

all i'm saying is that cingy themselves are not being fair with how the phone is described...

the blackjack is in the same class as the 3125 as far as functionality goes, just with a full keyboard.....

the phone is actually a smartphone, not a PDA, and therefore should be charged as such(19.99 for smartphone connect) the only problem with that is you will have unl data with that plan but CV is blocked, so you need a media max plan to get CV.

Unless you are tethering your device their is no way that you should be able to use much more data than you do with say a v3xx, or SYNC....so the media max plan shouldn't raise any eyebrows.......

Again i would not discuss this with anybody with cingular, i would have another devices IMEI ...

The Treo and the Blackberrys are technically Smartphones as well. They still require the PDA connect. It doesn't matter what the manufacturer labels their device as, it matters what Cingular says you need for that device.

The IMEI on the account wont matter either. Each device connects differently, and it's easy to see which method you're using. If you're supposed to be using the PDA connect, and you're not, it's only a matter of time until you're caught.

Blackberrys are blackberrys and use Blackberry personal, not PDA connect beacuase of it,

Treo's are PDA's they where one of the first PDA's ever made. and they use PDA connect

The Blackjack is not a PDA, it has limited functionality, which is why all the cingular reps where confused on what data plan to give it, because it is a smartphone, not a PDA phone....because its 3G cingy wants to get away with charging people more money.

My RAE told me that the reason the Blackjack, despite being techinically a smartphone, requires the PDA connect, is because Cingular determined that because the phone has a QWERTY keypad, customers are more likely to use much more data than with a standard numerical keypad smartphone. Thus, the requirement for the PDA connect instead of Smartphone connect. Now, there is another option for claiming your rebate: you can sign up for the messaging extreme for $19.99 and that qualifies you for the rebate, and, at least in my store, the media discount as well. Of course, that doesnt give you any media package, but its an option for those who want the phone at the discounted price.

I appreciate all of your input, and I don't like the idea of trying to trick cingular, but it seems like they're inviting us to with these shady definitions as to what you should be charged, I mean, if they're to tell me that I deserve to be charged an extra $20 bucks a month, which insultingly is a lot of money to some people for some undetermined ammount of extra kilobytes used, just because they think more keys on my phone will encourage me to overuse their service, i won't feel so guilty trying to get away using the $20 service especially when every other carrier charges no more than $20 for their unlimited internet plans no matter what phone you use. Why does cingular have to charge double? Is their internet that much better? No, it'...

Actually, the internet is that much better IMO. All the questions you're asking is exactly why a customer should go into the store instead of buying online. There are a lot of options out there and you need a trained rep to get you into what you need so that you don't face problems in the future.

The PDAs and Smartphones don't use the same internet connection as regular phones do. You get a dedicated data line, and you also get better customer service because you're routed into Business CC when you call in with problems. You get what you pay for.
