So that begs the question, who actually had more net ads since Cingular and Verizon are reporting the same number (1.7 million). I would be very interested to see that ststistic.

vzw = 1.683
cing = 1.679

So I guess vzw wins (tho not by much)

The real interesting statistic would be how many customers switched from Cing to VZW and vice versa.

actually, if it were possible, I'd like to see the number of people who switched from Cingular to Cingular (via a spouse's name and changing phone #s) 🀣

I'm curious, where did this info come from?

Also, don't forget, that out of 1.7 Cingy customers, only 1.0 is postpaid, the rest is gophone and trakfone. And compare this to 1.6 out of 1.7 with VZW.

Never mind that VZW ARPU is higher (by not much, but still).

Customers made Verizon that way. Every once in awhile you read a post on this forum complaining about Verizon and then the user goes and says "If it weren't for their great coverage I'd be at Cingular now." ... And that's just on phonescoop.

Not so great on net adds? The last I checked this is still leading the industry for the first quarter isn't it? Where did Sprint come out at, wasn't it 1.3? Cingular had a majority of it's adds from Go Phone and resellers right?
Kudos to Verizon, postpaid churn under 1% and 1.6 million customers that signed a one or two year contract instead of buying a ghetto boost mobile or go phone! It's about putting money in the bank and VZW seems to be doing fine and keeping customers. What is happening to Sprint?????????

Why does everyone knock GoPhone? Most of the people I sign up for it does so because they DO NOT want a contract... Yes, there are plenty of credit challenged people that sign up as well... but it's one of the best things to happen to the wireless industry in the American market... it's how most things have been done in Europe for years.

GoPhone is a great product. Verizon has something similar, EasyPay. If Verizon had 1 mil contract adds and 700k EasyPay adds people wouldn't be knocking GoPhone. :-/

Quarter after quarter, VZW beat Cingy. Quarter after quarter VZW became more arrogant and restrictive. Cingular catching up to VZW in terms of key stats can be nothing but a positive for those of us who are Verizon customers.

Let the Cingy/VZW reps flame each other to death about who’s #1. As customers, we need to keep in mind that these numbers ain’t a football score and Verizon ain’t our team. It’s all bidness and the hotter the competition between the carriers, the better it is for us.

Couldn't do the blackberry, that jog dial blows. I love the Treo and want the Q but heard that will have the jog dial instead of touch screen. I've played with the Q, it does have the 'jog dial' and no touch screen. The only phones i know that are out soon is the new razr (u mentioned) that adds micro sd and the lg 8300, both are good phones. tho the e815 is a great phone!

i would be interested in seeing how many postpaid/prepaid were with each carrier. I know cingular has had some huge numbers in prepaid field and resellers like trac phone to pad their numbers. Just curious what post paid vs. postpaid is.

May 2, 2006, 11:50 AM
cing postpaid was 1 million
vzw postpaid was 1.6 million.

take that for what you will, obvious vzw is doing much better at post paid, but they are not keeping very competitive with resellers and prepay.

Read cafefully, it has been mentioned by ArmySF:

VZW - 53.020 - 50.7 retail - 2.320 wholesale
Cingy - 55.810 - 50.787 retal - 5.023 wholesale

so VZ is on par with cingy based on the number of contract subscribers

I honestly was expecting 2.1 mill net adds.

Churn is lower then i expected so thats great. .96% postpay churn is awesome.

Maybe this is a good thing that Cingular is closing in I work for vzw but like you guys i hope to have OBEX in all phones and more unique ui's. maybe this is what we need to get it done, Verizon is slowly changing as it is, now that cingular is catching up who knows.

they best pull their head out of the sand sooner then later with cingular network is improving quickly, they will change their name to at&t and verizon will be left with old ppl for a client base and cingular will be on the cutting edge with everything.
