Personally, I Hope Verizon Loses the Quarter -=-=-
Personally, I think that's actually a GOOD thing. VZW needs a kick in their complacency. Customers endlessly complain that:
- the data plans are not competitive, price-wise
- the phone lineup, while improved, is still lacking
- VZW prepay is lame beyond recognition
- crippled Bluetooth pisses them off
... and yet its like Verizon is sitting there with their hands over their ears, yelling "Lalalalalala, I can't HEAR you (now)." π€£
I guess they only thing they hear is when ATT punches them in the face (Sprint sure...

I agree, but I don't think one lost quarter will have any significant impact on their arrogance βΉοΈ
Meh. Two or three lost quarters in a row, then. It's not impossible, even though ATT does strike me as a carrier fully capable of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Verizon Wireless has waited more than 46 days for Amp'd to pay off its debts while it slogs through its Chapter 11, but Vodafone, the 45 percent stakeholder in Verizon Wireless said VZW should pay off its $12 billion in debts by 2009. Vodafone says it will have to wait another couple of years before receiving profits from its minority stake in the U.S. carrier. Under the current agreement, Vodafone receives no dividends from Verizon Wireless and does not have the power to change that cash return policy. Vodafone recently denied a report that it was mulling a $160 billion bid for Verizon Communications, the other parent company of Verizon Wireless.

This is true. They're getting better with the unlimited text options and that sort of thing, but their unlimited data on PDAs is weak.

The only time I ever see this complaint is on phonescoop. I really don't understand it either. As of this post, there were 30 phones on the website. How much selection do you really need?

Most of us are knowledgeable and want the latest and greatest technology so nothing will ever satisfy us.
90% just want a phone with 9 numbers that is durable, maybe has a few common features, and will last as long as possible.

Then why is the RAZR so popular? π€£

I would hope for 10 numbers, myself. Dialing without a '0' would be a b*tch. π³
I'm thinking of picketing my local Verizon store with some of my fellow disgruntled cellphone enthusiasts in hopes of making the statement that VZW needs to forever put an end to crippling the bluetooth feature on its handsets.
I think I'll dress up like Moses, and I will be symbolically "leading my people out" of Verizon bondage, taking them to the land where there will be no more cripples, especially bluetooth!

Can they transfer files from one phone to another? It's still crippled. It's just less crippled than it was before.
You're right that there's still restrictions. These are the bluetooth specs for the RAZR Maxx, from VZW's own website:
The MOTORAZR maxx Ve supports the following Bluetooth Profiles: Headset, Handsβfree, Serial Port, Dial Up Networking, Stereo Headset Support for Listening to Music, File Transfer & Object Push for user generated image/video & vCard only. It does not support all Bluetooth object transfer (OBEX) profiles.

No argument there. They oughta fix that, if they're smart.

It's not so much a problem of quantity, but of quality.

If you look at VZW's phone line-up, at the low-end you see a lot of bottom feeder UT Starcom-made stuff ('Verizon CDM-whatever). And once in a blue moon the occassional Kyocera that no one cares about. What's the point of clogging the lineup with that crap, when Samsung and LG make good entry-level phones? Price alone? Heck, the LG 3400 would be free with a 2-year, if they lowered the price ten bucks.
It is free, online at least.
At the high end, its no secret that Blackberry folks want the Curve bad, and that smartphone/PDA users are not so happy with their limited selection. You hear that plenty even outside of Phonescoop. And, of course, people want an alternative...

That's probably true. On the other hand, it's not too hard to bump someone from free to $10 if you tell them it's going to work a lot better.

Again, the only time I ever hear this complaint is on phonescoop. Most average customers don't even know the full capabilities of bluetooth. I still get people saying that they want that blue thing on their phone. I had one teenage girl saying that she needed to get a phone with bluetooth to her mom. I told her that her phone already has bluetooth on it. She said: "Really? What does bluetooth do anyway?" So while it may piss off the 5 or 6 people that complain about it on here, it's hardly an issue worth mentioning in the grand scheme of things.
I'd agree that

Actually, I wouldn't doubt it if T-Mobile, sometime in the near-to-distant future, becomes the #1 CDMA carrier in the U.S. They're already #3 overall, but their execs need to invest in decent technology and then they will take over the market. (Which is why I'm porting to AT&T, not them) ;)
Whoops. (and yes, I read articles about T-Mobile and WCDMA)

It's an easy mistake to make. 3G GSM is borrowing from CDMA technology, because its better (hence the 'WCDMA'). Though GSM fanbois will spit up blood before admitting it. π²
Though, if WCDMA becomes industry standard I will be a happy, happy person.
Yes, SIM cards are cool, but CDMA's soft hand-offs, higher tower capacity, and better sensitivity to weak signals (all else being equal) usually equals a better user experience. It's really hard for me to remember the last time I dropped a call. And unlike my ATT-using friends, I seldom have a call garbled or jacked up in any way.
If you can find a good GSM network where you live, more power to you, but CDMA has always worked better for me.

There is only one carrier and one only in the US that can say they built their network from the ground up. They did not buy others to make theirs. I won't give any names as you all know who it is. ATT, Tmobile, verizon all bought up other carriers to get were they are. And in doing that may have inherited a bad network in that area and didn't want to fix it do to cost!
That's kind of an odd statement. Reason I say so; sat, for instance, that VZW is upgrading it whole network to next gen technologies, wouldn't that be a 'fix'? Verizon has upgraded it's network to 1x and is nearly don't with a full network overhaul to Rev A. Perhaps with Tmob and att, which have some skanky old TDMA sites run...

The iphone may not be as spectacular as everyone had hoped, but it has and will continue to force the marketplace to evolve and become more innovative with both phones and price plans.
Get some PDA's and Blackberries out VZW! and lower your data to $25-30 for unlimited data/BBerry service.
Chris
Att BB--$30-45
Verizon BB--$30-45
Sprint BB--$I think its $30
Tmobile--Who the hell knows, Tmo sux.

Yeah if Verizon doesn't make data cheaper and less restrictive (I want my Slingbox!!) I'm totally switching to Sprint.

savings@srpint.com doesn't work anymore so you'll need to know someone. 1250 mins, unlimited data and text for fifty bucks! nights at 7pm π
Yeah, but don't do the funky chicken dance in the end zone just yet. Remember your experience with ATT and the iPhone?
There's a reason why Sprint's offering plans for so cheap... its 'cuz they HAVE to. And even with that, customers are still leaving them in droves. Check out their last quarter results sometime. π²
However, with luck, you may win the game of Russian roulette that is Sprint's network. I hope it works out for ya.
BTW, you know the old cliche "don't quit your day job"? Well, it doesn't apply here, because anyone in sales who hopes the person signing their paycheck loses money should be exploring other career goals.
Oh, and I don't work for VZW.
Sorry I "brought the pain" π’ , try a little ice, always works for me.
Oh well. BTW, "yo mama" jokes are about as cool and trendy as parachute pants and Coleco video games.
