I recently lost my phone while away at school. I called up made an insurance claim and ended up getting one from them. A few weeks later after unpacking I found the other one. It's basically brand new and I have no use for it. Could you sell it or will it not work when someone else tries to activate it?

it really cant be. unless you know a tech at a vzw corp store. or the phone is returned to lockline/vzw and its taken off the list.

a regular customer cant do it. the best you can do is sell it for parts or call vzw or lockline be honest and tell them you found it.

sorry brah, because the imei is what activates the phone unlike gsm networks (t-mo and cingy) with sim cards that phone is now unactive until they clear that imei.

imei is for gsm phones. cdma phones are esn numbers. and also for poster,if you call customer service, you most likely could get phone put back on your service, then do esn change under your account on vzw web site. then once you change phones around you can give the lost phone to who ever or sell it.

thats what i meant 🤭 🤭

and for the poster he filed a warranty exchange so its asurion or locklines property so therefore he can NEVER re-activate it. no if no claim was processed on that phone he would have all rights to it.

If it was a warranty exchange, it would have been done in the store, not through insurance, and we would have physically taken the old phone. I can tell you first-hand that if somebody loses a phone and then finds it, they can take it off the lost/stolen list themselves, regardless of any insurance claim filed. I imagine that your scenario may come to pass if people were to abuse this, but as of right now if you own the account where the phone was lost, you and only you can take it off the list. Asurion and lock/line don't come into play here.

so your telling me I lost my razr, found it, mean while, asurion sent me another one. i gave it to a buddy who wanted to activated it and it wouldnt activate because it was reported lost. i MYSELF called vzw (and even worked for an agent of theirs at the time) they told me i'd have to deal with asurion about it. so i caled asurion they told me i'd have to send them the one they sent me back (not getting my deductable back) then call vzw back and tell them that i returned it to asurion. then only could i use that phone. the guy said if it was taken off the lost/stolen list before that vzw would HAVE to pay them for the cost of the phone. since they sent me a replacement. which btw i called them back and they still didnt want to activate this...

What? BS. All you have to do to take the phone off the lost/stolen list is call customer service. A tech support rep can do it in around 5 seconds. You have to be the account holder and of course the account will be verified.

At least part of this is true... if an ESN is on the list, you can't put it on an MTN, period. There are no SIM cards in CDMA to get around this.

If you try to reactivate it after telling the insurance you lost it, it could be considered fraud... just something to consider...

So far as I know, it's not considered fraud. At least not by VZW. I've yet to see or hear any customer hit with a lawsuit or whatever because they filed an insurance claim and then found their phone.

i dont know buddy. i lost then found mine and they wouldnt re-activate it because i didnt send the one they sent me back and technically the lost one quote: was asurion's property" once i received my new one. 😕
