i love it when customers call up and flip out on us when their children rack up the bill. its our fault b/c we shouldnt allow txt on all phones or we didnt tell them that its able to be blocked. its called asking about it...do we seriously need to hold your hand thru everything. or they think we can cap mins/txt once it reaches the allowance. or they flip out b/c the highest txt plan (what it used to be) is $20 for 2500 and we dont offer anything more. and their bill is $500+. its our problem b/c we chrg too much...its called parenting, dont keep adding more mins or txt plans to accomodate your kids, its called punishment...take the phone away so they learn.

and these premium txt/dloads....anyone have any encounters with those...

In the last year I have only had one person say they didn't need a txt block because they can be a responsible parent. She was told by the wonderful store rep that the $5 Unlimited in/50 out plan was unlimited to anyone so they used it like that. Bill wasn't too bad but they had around $50 in overage. I offered a txt block along with removal of the txt feature and she said, "I don't need a block, I can be a responsible parent."

I was amazed. 1 out of 12,000 customers. Makes me worry about the rest of them...

What are the premium downloads you refer to? Is there something from third party providers that can be billed through VZW. I don't mind controlling voice mins, text, V-Cast dwnlds and GIN apps, but am unaware of any other billable services. I would like to have any 3rd party apps blocked. Please fill me in.

There is an 800 number you can call to put your mobile number on a list that takes it off of any 3rd party vendor list. Joke of the day is a good example. That one was something like 1.99 per day everyday. I've seen some that were as high as 9.99/day. I don't know the number off hand, but I give it to customers as often as possible. You can call customer service and ask for it. Its ...

Vzw has a contract with any premium sms service that allows the customer to reply to the sms service with three words to unsubscribe. Stop, quit and there was another one but they all do the same thing.

I bought my son the MIGO, and of course it doesn't accept or send txt messages, but I had gotten online to look at my account and noticed 28 txt messages to his number from "joke of the day" at $1.99/ea. I was able to have the charges removed fairly easily for the fact that the MIGO doesn't accept txt!!! Turns out whoever had the number before him had this on their phone!!! A simple block took care of it for good! Of course, they first suggested I reply to the messages and cancel, but HELLO....you can't read or respond to txt on the MIGO!

True on the MIGO phone, but you can also go onto www.vtext.com and block specific numbers or urls that are sending the texts.

Actually you can. It's a little tricky with blocking a specific number in that you need to enter the 10-digit number @ the cell company's text DNS (forex: 1234567890@vtext.com), but I am about 99.99999% positive that this works.

I almost failed a call because I didn't give all options such as the above listed. This was still when FCR was heavily weighed. I passed the call because I tried every which way possible to block my supervisors number from texting me. Every time the text from her phone came through with no problem.

That's one take, but you caould also say that when someone is specifically buying a phone for their child, why not OFFER that as an option? My guess is that it's not because why would you turn away money that you're likely to get at some point. All kids are going to screw it up at SOME point, and if VZW can make another $50 or more because some kid texts until his fingers fall off, why not? I just think that if a parent comes in and says that they are buying a phone for their child that all options should be given to the parents. Give them the tools to make the best decision and then if it happens, shame on them. Regardless, it's not your fault that their kid racked up a huge bill. I speak as a parent whose child ran up a thousand dollars in...

pream txt are things that the kid (usually) subscribes to. they'll see an add on tv or see a website to txt a certain word to a certain # to get a ringtone/game/trivia/whichever. they dont read the small print on the botton of the screen (b/c it's nearly impossible or they dont pay attention) and the 3rd party bills us and sowe bill the customer. u can reply with the word stop/cancel/quit. no way u can put a block on it that i know of.

u other cust serv reps out there...i'm wondering what 1800# u give to your customers b/c we havent gotten that info yet.

and about all the choices store reps can give, yes i agree they should give the cust options to block when they sign up bu i was just basically saying that after they've had 3 or ...
