Mr. Gunny Highway Captain of my own ship. π

I dont work for them, I am not on a short leash.... π
...
I don't work for them...I'd love to just to bring in the union
...
a VZW union... where's Jimmy Hoffa when you need him ("huh... with bigfoot and elvis? ok.")
...
I don't work for any wireless carrier or authorized agents. And don't get me started with unions. I had bad luck with Teamsters and UFCW that I don't want to be in a union.
...
No one with half a brain would want VZW to unionize. We get more than our unionized cohorts at Cingular who have the priviledge of paying union dues and make less money and have lesser benefits.
...
If they ever did unize I wouldn't join. That way if they ever strike I can be a scab.
scabs are cool. especially when you pick at them.

Most companies that have unions won't hire anyone that doesn't want to be in the union. The way unions have contracts written up is that certain positions are union, and they don't allow anyone to be non-union, except for management. Another problem you'll usually face being in a union is you can't transfer locations outside of that union number. So if you want to transfer locations, you need to be in management to keep your seniority. After finding this out with companies that are in the Teamsters, I refuse to apply for work at those companies because it would force me to quit my job and what I worked hard for, just to relocate. Companies I looked at were ABF & Yellow Freight, and I used to work as a package handler (loader) for UPS. ...

well have you ever thought of changing the way the union works? You do know it is a democratic institution that is run by its members?

I will assume you think it is a laughing matter, but I beg the question why? Or do you prefer dictatorships, cause really that's how any corporation is run, there is no election by the people that will be directly affected, in fact, the choice of a corporate leader is done in closed door session and more guarded. So when you laugh I hope you realize that the only thing you are laughing at is your own dignity and respect being thrown out the door. You might as well start pledging allegiance to the Multinational Corporations that are leaving the US for cheaper labor and well don't care about anyone but themselves. Sorry to rant, but as I study the field of labor, I find any blatant insult a bit more seriously, cause most people who work ha...

Work for Verizon but not wireless.
I think our union rulesπ Can't beat our bennies - why do you think we still have them?

I would love to hear what terrible time you had with the union, please share...and remain calm when responding and please for the sake of this discussion refrain from using typical anti-union rhetoric of Jimmy Hoffa, and anything relating the the 1960s mafia activities.

Simple....I paid them dues and never got anything back out of it. I get WAY more now by being in a non-union company because I can negotiate my salary on my own with management. Unions are for chicken $hit people who are afraid to stand up to their management and tell said management what they deserve to be paid.
...
well tell me then what union was it what workplace, what was the job and what is your job now?

What business is that of yours? If you must know, I was a member of the UFCW....and my job now is a procurement specialist for a container distributor.
...
Cause this is what I study...people as workers in different workplaces and how they are treated. You made a claim that the union brought you nothing and that you were better off on your own, so that is why I ask, if you are going to make that statement then I am curious to know why you do. The "business" I study is that of people not gaining respect and a voice in the workplace.

Oh, well I'm sorry for taking the hostile tone then. I am so used to people on here trying to start trouble so I just assumed that is what you were doing. Honestly, in my experience, I have found that I am much better off dealing with management on my own instead of through a union.
...
Well, if I may say so you are fortunate...cause most people do not have the privilege, in fact most management as I have studied will prevent people from having such privileges. But the question is really, a question of opportunity, not everyone has the same opportunities in life and those that have them are the lucky ones. It seems intrusive to ask questions about work, but the information that I ask for used to be completely public information that was published by companies, but now adays there is more a status question that arises from how much someone is paid and people bought into the status question so much that they fear the artificial feeling that others will judge them, when in fact not discussing wages and pay with others furthe...

I don't work for VZW.
Why do you ask?

In two days I will no longer be affiliated with Verizon. I do have a question though. DK, I thought you left? You made a big stink about your posting, then stopping, and everyone still referencing your posts along with requesting your posts be erased, etc. So I guess I'm wondering what's the deal? Just curious, don't take this as an attack or anything. You have just as much right to post here as I do, but I can't help but be very curious about your motives recently.
...
I have no affiliation with Verizon Wireless. I've just been an extremely satisfied cellular service customer throughout their wireless history of name changes as New York Telephone, NYNEX, Bell Atlantic and Verizon.
...
I don't work for Verzion.
My family has had Verzion (landline) back East since they were Bell Atlantic and whatever they were before that.
My first cell phone was a Verizon forerunner called NYNEX Mobile (had one of those Motorola Flips).. heavy but got the job done. Paid about $39.99 a month for 90 minutes then I think it was 35 cents a minute after that... so I will NEVER complain about the plans they have nowadays.

I am nothing more than a customer of Verizon Wireless.
