There was a window for a couple of weeks. However, if you had called to cancel they were just crediting back the 40 cent times the number of months remaining. Also, by now the time period has passed. If you haven't even tried by now you have accepted that fee. As far as your ringtone question, I am a dealer for Verizon, so as far as "I" can say there isn't a work around. Maybe someone not from Verizon might know...

I just don't understand the thinking of some people. The equation goes: I work for Company X. Company X provides a service at Y dollars (i.e. ringtone downloads). Y dollars paid by consumer come back to Company X employees as bonuses, pay raises, etc. What rational person would expect employees of Company X to see less bonus money and less opportunities for pay rasies because customer Z doesn't want to pay for said service. I, for one, am an advocate for the customer and will do anything to make sure someone understands their service and how the charges work, but I will not compromise my companies profitibility because some schmo doesn't think that it's fair he has to pay for ringtones. 'Nuff said...

i don't think its because he doesn't wanna pay for ringtones i think its because he wants to have his own custom ringtones. you know songs that vzw doesn't offer as ringers.

don't label him a schmoe or whatever you said because he asked a question.

I agree. I like how the cell phone manufactorers are advertising these things and then VZW makes them to be disabled in any handset sold on their system. I don't like it...but I will still say that is a small point in the grand scheme of things. Overall VZW is an awesome product to sell.

Just thought of one more thing. I still won't tell someone how to hack a phone. I can imagine this now. Someone screws thier phone up and then says, "But crazyeaglefan236 said all I had to do was..." Then VZW researches and sees that I am a dealer...

Oh yeah, just like I had a customer come in the other day and say that Radio Shack said that I sold the cables they could use to download their pix from their phone to their computer.

Ok...I sell the data connectivity kits which INCLUDES a cable...but would I sell this as doing what the customer wants to use it for? Heck no. Would I rather play dumb and say, "Hummm, I am not quite sure what they are talking about. All I sell is these connectivity kits which are for..." And then if ...

damn yeah i can see how that comes back to u and i'm not gonna ask u to do something that will put urself in a postion like that and yes the main reason i want my own ringtones is because i listen to stuff the radios dont play and most people never heard of so theres no way verizon will have it on there ringtone system. i just want someone to lead me in the directions for the mp3 ringtones from my minisd or tell me if theres places i can pay who will do it i dont care if i **** it up i have insurence. and your right verizon is a great product it just sucks that they do some of the stuff they do i.e. dumbing down the phones especially when even though cingular lets u do that ppl are stupid and still pay for ring tones lol

ok number one my employment at cingular is a stepping stone i have an interview with verizon next monday and i'm in contact with the regional manger whos promised me a job its just finding a space. numbers i dont want there crappy 30sec music clips for a ringtone when i payed good money for a phone with an mp3 player and the ability to play it as ringtones. i payed for the songs already and the phone so why should i pay more because they want to make more money. i understand that they are a business and are here to make money but to dumb down a product and screw your loyal customers is no way to do business like i said i dont want there crap 30sec ringtone product all i want is for the $350 phone i bought to do what it was made to do

the fact is that verizon is not the only place to buy ring tones.

the reason verizon makes it difficult to load mp3's as ring tones is copyright issues. They don't want to be liable for someone's use of their equipment in an illegal way. In addition, I understand that possibly there are some contracts with ring tone providers that stipulate some of those things.

Cingular doesn't make it easy to do this. Neither does Sprint, FWIW.

One "work around" that has worked for me on several phones, and may work for you in this position:

1) many phones, if they receive a text message that contains a URL, will enable a function called "goto" that will open the browser and point it at the URL. If your phone does this, then this might work...

well duh. why would a company give things away free when they have a sevice to charge for it? can you go to the grocery store and walk out with the milk for free? well i mean without stealing it.. the answer is no. it makes perfect sense for business. of course cingular lets people do it. when you're not number 1 you have to let people do more in hopes of becoming number 1.

they are number one in customer base only because of the merger. but that gap is quickly closing and will be taken over very soon. but cingular is not number 1 according to consumer reports, or any other category for that matter

You can afford 5 lines but can't pay 1.99 for a ringtone? You clearly are the type that would also try to claim the .40 admin charge is going to bankrupt you.

If you're going to go, go. There are 3 people dying to take your place.

I think you are asking if you can cancel without an ETF. If that is the question the answer is no.

Don't you love how our customer always make uneducated decisions?

1. When you wish to buy a phone, search the net for hacks first. If none found concider it again.

2. Buying the LG-VX9800 because it plays mp3s and expect verizon to let you use it for free is just uh... an awesome decision. In fact, it reminds me of this other uneducated decision-making customer lady that wanted to buy a samsung A-790 because it was almost as thin as the razr somehow...
