Is Motorola getting better?

I remember the Motorola StarTac (786😎, that phone was a tank. I swear you could throw it off a building and it would still work. Then came the not so great Motorola V120 series. Then the abysmal T720/T730 series. The V60 series rebounded some (the V60c/i were pretty decent phones) and that takes us to the V710 and E815. Those are doing fairly well.

So, just wanted to get some opinions on this. Please, this is not a Motorola bashing thread, but simply a friendly poll. 🙂

Motorola has really let my friend down, I can tell you that. Her V265 has given up the ghost after only 10 months, and no, it wasn't abused or dropped lots. She was given a refurbished V265 to replace the defective V265, and guess what, it stopped working after a couple of days. She went back, and stood in line with suprise(!) a nice gentleman who also had a defective V265.

Hate to say it, but if it looks like a POS phone, acts like a POS phone, etc. etc., its probably a POS phone. Way to go Moto... not. 👿

They eventually gave her a V276, which does work, but for how long? She's pretty much sworn off Motorola now, and I have too. I was a little intrigued by the E815, but if this is Moto's idea of build quality and durability, w...

Personally I am holding out for the Verizon capable RAZR which according to Baron's is due out in time for the holidays.

That said, I must admit, I am not a fan of Motorola though I too foundly remember my old StarTac 7868.

I recently gave up my Audiovox CDM8900, which I loved, for a Motorola V710. The ONLY reason I did it was for the BT as my new car has BT and I did not want to install a OEM car kit like I have always done in the past. The V710 is "okay" but the battery life is terrible.

As for the LG-VX8100, I have never used an LG but I have heard and read that like the 710 the battery life is poor. Any truth to this from your actual experience?

Thanks. I just re-checked and I see where it is digital only I believe. This won't work for me. I still travel to too many places where its analog or nothing at all :-(

Then you can't get ANY EVDO phone. The top level phone you can get with analog is the V710, unless you get a PDA/Phone.

Yeah, I thought so. I think that since I have the ability to change phones via VZW's website I will get the RAZR for when I am home and keep the V710 for when I travel.

The V265 was NOT Motorola's best phone, by a long shot. I looked at a couple, they looked more like a Fisher Price phone than anything else.

Ihad 2 other phones mentioned in here, the V120C and the T730. I never had either one replaced for any reason. The charging ports weren't a huge issue for me and the call quality was decent. Signal pulling capability dropped off near the end, as did battery life but I was overall happy with both of them. The T730 was dropped numerous times in the first couple months of ownership and still worked well for the remaining 20 months.

I got an E815 2 months ago, I've been nothing but happy to this point. I had one charging glitch that resolved itself when I took it to the VZW service center. My b...

Hey, for all I know, the E815 walks on water, but I'm not gonna get one. Too big a phone, and I just don't trust Moto after what they did to my friend (and apparently a lot of other people who were unlucky enough to get a V265).

My next phone is likely gonna be either a Nokia or a Samsung. Both makers have done well by my friends and family, so aloha, Moto.

I recently had the chance to use a E815 for over a month in various parts of the country. I was very impressed with the build quality and the sound quality which beats anything else I've ever used. The phone and Verizon coverage was so good in fact that I'm switching from Cingular despite being with them for many years. I never had a single problem with the 815. It's not perfect, but I've used many phones and have to say this is probably the best one so far. Hope that helps.

Have you tried the LG VX-8100??? I have used both the 815 and the 8100. The LG blows the motorola away.

The 815 is a great phone but moto's build quality is still really lacking, so if you get a good one then you are lucky and enjoy, but for a lot of people that phone will just turn into a headache with normal moto issues. They will be changing the charging port on the razor so that will help some, but we will have to waite and see. For now i will stick with my 8100, don't feel like getting a moto headache.

Don't count on the charging port on the RAZR being any better than the one Moto is using now. I have the Cingular RAZR and have had it replaced twice due to not being able to charge my phone.

No I haven't been able to use the 8100 yet. Based on the posts I wasn't planning to either, but I may change my mind and look before making the final decision. Thx for the thought...

I would advise giving it a try. I have had both and settled on the 8100. It is a much better build quality, and with the software update, it can do everything that the 815 can do.
