Upgrade/Switch Device

Once upon a time, things were simple. If I chose to upgrade online it was easy. I just logged into My Verizon, ordered a phone and when it arrived, i merely called the phone number and chose option two to accept the contract terms but activate the phone later. It's not so easy these days. I call the activation line and there is no option for activation later. I was given the option to activate the phone on the line I upgraded or another line on my account however. This is really a pain.

TPTB are likely trying to close the alternate upgrade loophole: two lines, one with unlimited data, the other not, upgrade to a new smartphone taken on the "not" phone but activation selected for later, new smartphone now open for activation, user then swaps the new smartphone into service on his unlimited data line. I haven't seen anything new as to modifications to the T&C's but VZW's closing that loophole fits the circumstances. Since most customers quickly indicate that they agree to be bound by Verizon's T&C's, its possible that there may now be one that new upgrades must accompany a change to current data pricing or be activated on the phone number it was purchased under. Again, no proof, bit it all fits.

I have three smartphones with unlimited data and one feature phone. I only upgrade on the feature phone line. Fortunately, I was able to have a representative online change the MEID back to the flip shot.

Sadly Verzion lives in this weird universe where if you have grandfathered features you can not upgrade your phone without losing them. At AT&T even if you have the grandfathered unlimited data you can upgrade or even do a cross upgrade from another eligable line. The only way you lose that plan at AT&T is if you downgrade technology and go to a basic phone which can not use that same plan.
