Loosing my unlimited data by two days

I'm eligible for my upgrade on June 30th and I just found out that any upgrade after June 8th looses unlimited data.

I stopped by my local Verizon store today to see about pre-ordering a Galaxy S3 (which I can't because you can't preorder before your upgrade date, even though the phone wouldn't be here until after my date). 🙄

The manager told me that although I will loose my unlimited data, I will be able to get a "Data Share Plan" that will include unlimited text & talk, and also free use of hot spot. He said the pricing will be tiered according to how much data I pick to share, so I have no idea yet if it's going to cost me more or not. For those of you who know, was I given accurate information?

You could always pay Full Retail Price for it and keep your Unlimited Data plan. Or you could buy it off Ebay.

You could go to a premium retailer/indirect agent and do your upgrade 7 days early.

Does anyone know how the Shared Data Plans will be priced? I haven't seen any actual official info yet.

Thanks for the info. OK...so I currently have my smartphone w/unlimited data, my son's iphone 4S w/2GB, and my wife's multimedia phone all on our family share plan. According to the prices given in your link, that would be $40 X 2 for the smartphones, and $30 for my wife's. That would be $110 plus whatever data plan we choose to share. I'm usually close to 3.5GB a month and my son is close to 2GB. If we go with the 6GB plan that would be another $80, so I'm at $190 before taxes and insurance. Looks like I won't be saving a dime. Might even cost me little more than I currently pay. Lovely.

I'll say the same thing I do to anyone else who's looking at a tiered data plan: Wi-Fi is your best friend. When you connect to Wi-Fi, you don't use your data plan. It's not something you think about when you have unlimited data because hey, it's not like you need to watch your usage. Try turning Wi-Fi on and using it where available, and see where your usage drops to. I was using a little over 1 GB a month, then turned on Wi-Fi and used around 100 MB a month instead.

Oh I know about using wi-fi. I make sure my son does all the time while home or away at college (which is why he's at 1.5GB average). The reason my usage is so high is because I don't have wi-fi available at my office and because I stream Pandora in my car all the time.

Pandora will kill you. If you can, load music onto your phone directly and just listen to that, or invest in CDs 🤣

CDs? How very 90's of you! 😉
If I go with 6GB to share with my boy, I shouldn't have to adjust my usage habits (including Pandora).

Why don't you just leave your plan alone. You don't HAVE to go to the Shared Date plan you just HAVE to give up your unlimited data plan if you upgrade at discounted price.

I realize that. What I have been saying is that unless I have miscalculated something, the new plan might not be a bad thing for me. It looks like if I go with 6GB it will cost me about the same as my current bill, I will have a little more data available than we normally use, plus I'll have unlimited talk and free hotspot. All in all not a bad deal I guess. I was just hoping to maybe save some money.

Just think carefully before losing that unlimited data plan. No more streaming Pandora in the car...

You should follow nodeposit's advice and go to a premium retailer/indirect agent? He claims they will allow you to upgrade 7 days early. That would give you two more years.

Most stand-alone indirects can push the upgrade date up 7 days, so you would be able to upgrade on the 23rd.

Not sure if you'd keep unlimited on a device that doesn't drop till the 28th or not

I stopped by Verizon again today and had someone nice enough to look at my current plan and compare it to what I would pay for 2 smart phones and a regular phone with 6GB on a Data Share Plan. Turns out, it would have cost me $20 a month more. Long-story-short, she found a way to let me renew my Unlimited Data plan AND preorder my Samsung S3!! 😁

Scammed. Data share plans are the new family plans. You just lost your unlimited data son. I would be furious if i was you.

Well "son", you obviously don't know what you're talking about. I have the printed contract and the confirmation email from VZW. I have a Samsung GS3 on it's way (supposed to ship 7-11) AND I have renewed my existing contract with unlimited data on my line. My plan and my monthly bill will be the same as I've had for the past two years. Ooooh...what a scam. They got me good!

If you have a SHARED DATA PLAN you no longer have an unlimited data plan. 6gb on shared data is 80 dollars. Don't ask me how I know that until tomorrow. I stand by my statement that you got scammed by the verizon corporate store, not uncommon, or you just don't know what you're talking about considering shared data doesn't even launch until tomorrow. So either seems equally plausible.

So are you on drugs, or simply illiterate? I DO NOT HAVE A SHARED DATA PLAN! I have unlimited on my line and my son has the standard 2GB on his iphone. Sheesh..it's like talking to a piece of furniture.

are TOP SECRET. That guy broke a rule. If you want to keep unlimited data you need to remove the subsidy you get when you upgrade. Basically that means you have to purchase a phone outright. Either from a friend or even amazon.

I do. They may have it on their site but I was told on the 8th that it was top secret and to not share information. I recieved a nicely stapled informational sheet and did some boring training on it, and both said it's all proprietary information and that we can not share it.

Well if you learned about it on the 8th, that was before the public announcement on the 12th, so it was confidential and private until the 12th. They didn't want it leaked before that announcement.

We didn't learn about it until the 12th at our level, and were told on calls last week that we could share information about it because all the information was public anyway.

Nobody has told me to keep them hush hush.
