VoLTE

I read an article on CNET regarding the VoLTE plans on Verizon and the fact that the LG Revolution is capable of this feature whereas the Thunderbolt was not. Phonescoop does not list this feature in it's comparison charts. I have also not seen this feature listed anywhere on the Verizon QRGs.

Any info on whether or not a 4G handset has the feature, like the Charge? Might be useful information when determining what phone to buy if Verizon plans to make this switch next year.

Is Vzn even testing VoLTE yet? Talking over LTE will probably drain the batter a whole lot faster. I just haven't read anything about Vzn's timeline for VoLTE.

Post your own topic if you like but please don't hijack mine by taking it in another direction.

Hijack? It seemed perfectly relevant to me. 😕

And that is why I must say adios. If you are going to allow others to take threads in a different direction, albeit similar, when the OP asks politely to keep it on topic then I have zero use for this site anymore.

I honestly don't understand why that's a problem or would bother you so much.

One of the nice things about our forum system - compared to others - is that discussions can branch off in several different directions without overlapping or interfering.

Fine dude, go whine somewhere else. Jay was just trying to add to the discussion, no need to get all rude.

There just happens to be people here who are way too socially political. It's tough being a consumer on this site. There are so many wireless employees who gave up being consumer-minded when they started working in the industry. They'll support a corporation til the end.

Thank you Rich.

I don't think that the consumer/corporate bias that you see in everybody who may not enjoy you as a poster has a play in this thread.

Hey now, I'm not the biggest fan of Jay (gonna be honest here), but the topic is VoLTE, and he listed questions and concerns related to that. It's not like he went off and said something completely unrelated, like "Oh man, Sprint's LTE is gonna suck" (or, y'know, something like that).

Anyways, it would be cool if LTE could be used like this to simultaneously talk and text, but beyond being used for video calls I can't see much purpose.

Thanks for being honest.

So is the reason you don't like me is because I'm an unbiased consumer? Who is open minded enough to say something goog or bad about any carrier, not just one?

I'm honest with myself, Verizon's got the better 4G network hands down. No denying it. I just don't see the need to go around bashing AT&T, or other carriers. There was a time when AT&T had the better network. There's a time where they don't.

The problem is I do see a bias coming through in your posts, more against AT&T and for Verizon than anything. I work for AT&T and don't have a bias against Verizon.

In the end, I'm just not your biggest fan. Don't dislike you personally or anything.

Back in 08 & 09 ATT didnt follow the 3G upgrade path. HSPA 7.2/HSPA14/HSPA + 21, when I was with them they stayed still with no major 3G speed upgrades that 3G provided. Theres my explanation for not liking ATT. Staying still in 08 & 09.

That makes you biased against AT&T, Jay. Things can always change very quickly.

It's my understanding that the Revolution was the ONLY handset in the LTE lineup that was going to be capable of it. It was mentioned briefly at the Verizon and LG pressers during CES, but no real details were given at the time. If I were to venture an educated guess, the ability is probably in there but the software is lacking at this time. It was also my understanding that this functionality was at least two years out anyway. I'll have to dig up my notes from the Verizon press conference.

I certainly hope batteries get drastically better before VoLTE is implemented.

I'm sure there's someone on here with a better understanding of the dual CDMA/LTE hardware, but it seems to me that if you could shut off the CDMA radio and only use the LTE one, pushing all calls over VoLTE, - IN AN IDEAL SCENARIO - you might find a fairly efficient system.

I'm not sure if Verizon is going to make volte available to the public, but Verizon did make a volte call using the revolution earlier this year. Probably just to say "hey, check out what we can do"
