One of the things I miss about Blackberry.

I wouldn't get too excited. They could be as evil as Google and release a watered down version for competitors... like how Google only gives the true navigation app to Android users and a basic "Maps" app to the rest of the smartphone world.

I agree with you about this being the one thing that would eventually bring me back to BB. According to the news post apparently it will be watered down quit a bit; still, it's good news for people like me who still have a lot of friends/family on BB and miss the instant communication.

Would bring you BACK to BB? To me it is more of a reason to LEAVE BB. I can get messaging on my android to any BB or android user regardless of carrier AND get full web browsing that BB does not do? I'm really not sure how this benefits RIM. BBM is a major selling point to BB and now it will be available elsewhere. IMO, there is no reason to have a BB.

Opinion noted.

BBM will NOT be fully functional on Android or ios. If BBM were the number one selling point for buying a Berry perhaps you would be right. Since it isn't then that is why opinions are like *Bleep*holes.

God I hate people like you....

Just because YOU don't see the value in a blackberry, maybe someone else does. I have used Android and iOS and for my needs a blackberry is more efficient and just plain gets the job done.

And the blackberry keyboard still blows away anything ever released on any touchscreen device.

Its not all about web browsing and a ton of apps.

First, there's no need to be so hateful. Second, I said in my opinion, just as you are entitled to yours. Personal experience has shown me there is nothing the blackberry can do that I can't do on an android just as well if not better and faster. Sorry if I treaded on your delicate feelings about Blackberry.

Sorry for coming off harsh, but I just feel that your opinion is short sighted.

We have options in anything we buy. You could argue there is no reason to buy a car over 20K because all cars under 20K can do the job.

This world is about options and choice. Yeah, you can do everything with android you can with blackberry, but thats not what everyone wants. Like I said, I have used android extensively and I liked it, but the OS was not polished enough and I found myself constantly craving my blackberry. I switched back and haven't regretted a second of it.

Trust me, BB has frustrated me at times, but they still make a solid phone and its not as simple as "android is better, so you should use that"

I agree 100% Chris. Had an android phone for 8 months and while I won't say I didn't like it, I went happily back to Blackberry. I just missed the ease of my berry, it works better for my needs and I never quite got used to the touchscreen typing. I also couldn't stand the ridiculous battery life. Not everyone needs the latest tech toy to play through their day, some of us need a device that makes our day easier.

You don't post too often these days. How are things? What phones are you carrying these days?

Watered down is ok and expected. I don't expect all the emoticons and the like. Just the ability to chat with Messenger users will be fine for me.

I'm sure in time the app will get updates, and improvements.

They'll never make it as fully functional as it is for a Blackberry though. They will tease it. I don't blame them. Who buys the cow if you can get all the milk you want for free. Giving Android users a stripped down version is like giving a half cup of milk.

They just have to price it right to make it worthwhile for them. If they made it a monthly subscription under Google's new subscription model, they could price it a $3 or $4 per month and make a killing off of it, even if they lost some current BB users to the Android or iOS ecosystems.

If they made it nearly full-featured, they could sell it for more. Get people hooked on it hard enough and they might decide it's more cost effective to go back to a BB and get it for free instead of paying the toll to be an Androider.

Even if it doesn't take off like a rocket, things aren't going to get any worse then they are in Waterloo right now.

A monthly fee and the app would be DOA. No messenging service is worth $4 a month. Charge $5-10 one time and be done with it.
