I currently have the droid eris and it's the worst thing ever. It barely works and I need to upgrade. I keep getting mixed ideas about getting the i-phone or waiting for verizon to release a 4g, any ideas???
...
If I were you I would wait For 4G or go with one of the LTE phones Verizon is coming out with soon
...
I have an eris too and I come close to lighting it on fire. My upgrade is in March and I have been back and forth with either an LTE phone or iPhone. I might just wait until march so that I can get my NE2 credit. If you are upgrading early, keep in mind that the NE2 credit is $50-100 off a new phone if that matters.

Aside from the excellent OS/hardware combination on the iPhone, all you're really getting is the Apple logo. The phone will be just as fast on the web as your Eris. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere and won't see 4G for a while, I'd wait for the Thunderbolt. I feel your pain with the Eris, but as a proud long-term Incredible owner, I can assure you the Eris pales in comparison to it's younger siblings. I would wait for Thunderbolt. But if you've got that itch to stay on 3G for two more years with the most iconic device since the StarTac, it's not going to be the worst decision you could make.

DINC's rule-lol, sorry, I couldn't resist saying that. The Incredible really is incredible. But like Epik says the IPHONE wouldn't be a bad choice.

Yeah, the iPhone won't be a bad choice. But if I had to pick between a 4G Incredible (Thunderbolt) and a 3G iPhone, I'd pick the 4G HTC model time and time again. If this were a 4G iPhone, I might be saying something completely different.
...
Is there any idea of when Verizon might start releasing these 4G's???

Could be between March and June. There are at least four smartphones coming.

Does HTC make more quality/reliable smartphones than Motorola? The original Droid is a !!POS!! Touchscreen doesn't achknowledge my touches correctly, it has to be in a certain position for the charging light to come on,...and stay on.
This thing is !!SUCH!! a piece of crap!!!
So, does HTC make more reliable smartphones than Motorola? Touchscreens that work? Charging ports that work? Even a year later?

I still use my original Droid. The only issue I have with it is the sluggishness, compared to my Incredible. Never had another problem with it.
I've had a lot of HTCs over the years. They've been consistent in two ways: first, they always feel hollow for some reason. Some believe it feels "cheap." Second, the phones have always lasted me. Yes, I had a couple speaker blow outs over the years, but that wasn't unique to HTC. I've even cracked a screen before. But they've held up to my use. From my XV6600 all the way to my ADR6300 (Incredible), they've been quite consistent. I can't say the same for Motorolas, but the Droids have all seemed to buck their previous trend (of mostly crap).
Not sure why you've had the lion's share ...

Glad I didn't go with a Motorola! I KNEW it was TOO good to be TRUE!!!

My next smartphone will be either Samsung or Motorola, both Epic & Menno are currently using the HTC made Droid Incredible, so I will get their input on HTC.
But I am !!DONE!! with Motorola! ! !
...
I am using an Incredible as well. HTC has my vote!
...
How long have you been using it so far?
...
3 month, no problems? Touchscreen doesn't misread? It doesn't freeze up or restart out of the middle of know where?
...
Three months and it is perfect. I fought upgrading from my XV6900 for three years! o regrets.

9 months for me, as of tomorrow. Still going strong!
...
The Incredible you've had for 9 months? Heck, I didn't even realize the Incredible has been out that long.
So your saying in 9 months, no problems with the touchscreen?

I ordered mine during the first week of availability. Was lucky to get it, too, cause it became hard to buy very quickly.
I've had a couple times where the touch has gone sluggish, usually because I have a lot going on in the OS. A battery pull fixes it, and it's happened maybe three or four times in nine months.
By far, the best phone I've had. And you know I've had a lot of them - at least a couple dozen in more than seven years, many of them simultaneously. My first "smartphone" was the (made by HTC) Audiovox XV6600.
A lot has changed since the Harrier.
...
Oh wow, the Audiovox, I remember that one.
The Harrier though, I don't remember that one.
So you have faith in HTC, huh?
Well perhaps when they come out with an LTE-equipped qwerty sliding Android smartphone, I will consider HTC, one that is dual-core,...of course.
I joined Verizon in March of 2010, so do I qualify for an upgrade in November of 2011?

The Audiovox XV6600 was also known as the Harrier, though Verizon only used it internally. It was one of the first phones that a name had been applied to, aside from during the design phase. Verizon had a history of ignoring Audiovox/UTStarcom/PCD/HTC smartphone names - for instance, the HTC Touch was called the Verizon Wireless XV6900 on Big Red.
My history with HTC is a lot like most people's history with Motorola.
So I had the 6600, 6700, 6800, 6900, 5800, and Touch Pro.
I kept 6600 for a year, and 6700 for almost two. I had 6900 for most of a year before going to the Touch Pro, which I hated. I had noticed a trend of diminishing quality for a while. For instance, my Touch Pro's casing, buttons, and sliding mechanism all fel...

Isn't Eris the greek goddess of chaos. Good naming choice
...
FreddJan 26, 2011, 10:57 AM
From Wikipedia:
Eris is the Greek goddess of strife and discord, her name being translated into Latin as Discordia
Good point, lurk!
...
Wait. Wasn't Chaos the father of the Titans?
...
epikJan 26, 2011, 11:12 PM
No, that was Kronos.
...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos »In Greek mythical cosmogony, particularly in the Theogony (Origin of the Gods) of Hesiod (8th–7th century BC), Chaos is the original dark void from which everything else appeared. First came Gaia (Earth) and Eros (Love), then Erebus and his sister Nyx (Night). These siblings produced children together which included Aether, Hemera (Day), and Nemesis.[4] Other cosmogonies, such as the lost Heptamychos of Pherecydes of Syros, also have the gods being born from Chaos, but in a different way

That's why Eris is called the goddess of discord. Eris' Latin name is Discordia.
