I'm at my wits end...

I really getting sick on Verizon, seams like every time I call them I am on the phone with them for at least an hour and they can NEVER answer any of my questions, they just tell me to go to a store. The closest store to me is almost 2 hours away and with there high bill I can't afford to drive that far when I don't know if they will really be able to help me.

Anyways, enough ranting, I just got the Palm Pixi, witch was probably my first big mistake. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to turn the volume up. When I hit the side volume buttons it just pops up a little bell on the phone with a slash through it, I cannot find a setting's anywhere on the phone. Although if I am watching a movie online the volume buttons on the side wo...

Also when I say I can't get the volume to work I mean the call Volume, it's like it's stuck on silent witch really sucks because I run my own business and cannot afford to miss calls. I don't answer, they call someone else...

And you've tried this while on a phone call? The last seven years of phones I've had all change volume during the call. If you're seeing the bell with a slash, that's the ringer volume (meaning, you're not in a phone call).

So have you hit the volume up button after making your phone call?

I was thinking the same thing. Generally to turn up the in call volume you have to do it while in a call. Otherwise it controls the ringer volume, or maybe on this phone doesn't really do anything when not in a call? I honestly don't have enough experience with the Palms to say for sure.

Okay. This is what I did. I went to verizonwireless.com. I then hovered over the support tab and then clicked on Device. I typed in Palm in the search box and then selected the Pixi Plus. Now I am at the Palm Pixi Plus Support page. You have Device Manual Email Setup and Simulator. You also a Search field in which one can type in a query. I suggest that you familiarize yourself with the manual.

Now back to your issue. Obviously, your ringer is muted. So if I were going through the manual I would look at turning ringer on. I'll take a look at this issue by using the emulator and get back to you.

Now I am at the emulator. On the left I click on Phone. Under phone I click 'Turning ringer on/off'. The emulator pops up on the right. It states:

To turn the ringer on: Slide the Ringer Key to the left. (There is a red arrow pointing to the Ringer Key on the Pixi) I point my mouse cursor on the upper right of the phone and click there.

That's it! On the emulator A Bell icon with a slash appeared in the middle of the phone screen. Doing this again will turn the ringer back on.

Enjoy!

Be sure to add the call volume instructions, just in case. I assumed was the in-call volume, but maybe she misunderstands call volume as ringer volume.

I am sure from her description of the issue that this will solve it. In addition, unless there is a response I will not expend any more thought as this user was just created today and may not ever log in again.

Thank you! This helps a lot. Also, I'm just kind of going to answer everyone else’s posts in this, at least those I can remember.

I did mean the ringer volume, sorry. I didn't have any issues with the on call volume or video Volume. Also the menu was set up a lot different than what I'm used to. I was mainly upset that after talking with 5 or 6 different people they literally told me they didn't know and to go to a store... That is very poor customer service, don’t pass the issue onto someone else.

I am rather phone savvy, so generally I can learn the settings and get a feel for the phone quite fast, but I have never had a Palm and it is set up a lot different than other phone. Coming from a droid it's really different.

Ok, I have not seen it asked nor did you answer it so here goes:

Who sold you this phone in the first place? If you are coming from a Droid it seems like a very, very bad fit. It obviously does not do everything you want since there is no memory card slot. Whoever qualified you for the phone and sold it to you did a horrible disservice. Was there no in store education on the product beforehand for some of the most basic features? If and when you get a survey I would recommend giving a poor score based on those facts alone.

She said she lives two hours away from a corporate store so maybe she purchased it on-line. After spending two years in tech for these guys I am loath to make judgments. I once had a customer call in with her Blackberry Pearl and wanted me to tell her everything the phone could do.

Yeah I saw that and wasn't sure. Could also be Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc. Curious to see what she says. Looks like she is a night owl so we will know late tonight. I won't hear my Droid beep since I will have my headphones on smokin fools.

I went into bestbuy to look at the phones, they had this phone for like $50 I think while online it was free, so I ordered it online. I am going to go to a direct store to exchange it. I'm still not sure what I am going to switch too. The Droid I had was a little more high tech than I needed, but had everything I wanted so I might switch back to it, hopefully if I do it will work properly, I had nothing but problems with my old one.

Do you have guys have any idea of some phones I should look at? I would like a touch screen, but it's not a must. 3G, 3+ mega pixel camera with flash. Can take a 16GM memory card. GPS, not just VZ Navigator. Real web, streaming video, need something that's rather reliable.

I don't really want or need an an...

From what you say you would like and need from your phone, the Droid Incredible from HTC sounds like your device. It has an 8MP camera with dual LED flash. It supports Flash for full web browsing capability. It is a touch screen Android that supports Swype texting. It can also support a 32GB microSD

Let's cover your needs/requirements:

Touch screen
Android is going to be your best bet

3G
The only thing that's NOT 3G are the very basic of basic phones.

3mp or higher camera
Most smartphones are 5 or more now

16GB memory card capable
Most phones with memory card slots fit this creiteria

GPS, not just VZ Nav
Android, with Google maps and other downloadable apps. Most everything else would have to use VZ Nav anyway.

Real Web
You could always try Blackberry, but Android is still going to be your best bet here

Steaming video
If you mean off the web, a higher-end Android with 2.2 software is probably your best bet. Not everything works, but a higher-end Android running the latest software is probably going to be yo...

First let me start by saying I'm not trying to be mean.

Like Epik said, to get everything you want and described, Android is pretty much your only option. You say you don't need a Droid, but if you want to do the things you listed, then you need a Droid! lol I'm not sure why you had issues with your other Droid. You should have no issues installing more than 2 apps. People have hundreds of apps on them with no issues. Unfortunately it sounds like the phone may have been a little above your head?

Second, these are the reasons why we store employees stress the importance of buying from stores. We can offer you customer service and explain these things as well as help you with issues. When you buy online there is no help and you'll...

"Unfortunately it sounds like the phone may have been a little above your head?"

Sometimes I..(*Sigh*) REALLY want to do everything I can to help a customer like this because I have SOOOOOOOOO much empathy for the folks in the call center. Especially in tech support. No. I don't miss the old job at all.

The phone I had before was the Droid Incredible, I had gone through two of them then switched to the Palm, my first Droid kept crashing on me, the second they sent me worked great, execpt the app thing... I think I might go ahead and give the phone another try. But I also plan on taking a look at a blackberry while i'm in the store as well. Thanks so much for your help! I hate to say it but you all have been a lot more helpful than the verizion reps I have spoken with over the phone.

i actually am an agent and just sold a pixi yesterday that had this problem and came to find a few other stores of our that did as well. if you notice the mute slide switch on the side if its red its muted, if its not red you should be able to hear the volume. my customer had it unmuted but it still was. we took the back off and set it fine. i guess a small portion of them either A) the case just doesnt quite let it click all the way to volume on OR B) the switch simply will not lock in place. after research i found both of those to be possibilities

However, if you read the post, she is trying to effect a change by pressing the volume buttons and not the on/off button.
