How to save battery life on Android phones!! Must have app.

I'm posting this everyone. I hope it helps someone. 🙂

Download APNdroid from the market.

Android: When you're asleep, at an event, or otherwise indisposed, you don't need your battery-draining data connection, but you might still want to take phone calls. Free Android app APNdroid can selectively turn off your data access while allowing calls.

The app's design is a clever one, as activating APNdroid from its app button simply activates the on/off switch for GPRS, EDGE, and 3G networks, allowing you to use the APNdroid icon as a kind of widget on your Android screens. You obviously won't be able to surf the web or sync Google services while your data services are off, or send MMS messages. You will, however, have basic phone...

I always charge my phone at night (as I think most people do with smartphones). So this app wouldnt really help most IMO.

This is mainly for those with MOTOBLUR.

I charge my phone at night as well...but it can't sit for 8 hours on the charger.

And data is always running while not charging.

My phone was 100% when I went to bed, woke up it was at 75%. Jst from data being used and the constant updates. (I have Moto Backflip with MotoBlur)

I used this to turn data off when I don't need it, as described in the article.

It may not be helpful to you and the phone you have, but it would be to others with the phones with Moto Blur, DEVOUR for VZW, which is getting bad reviews because of the battery. Same for the Moto Backflip.

That's my opinion

You dont charge your phone at night? I leave mine on the charger all night. Should not affect newer batteries.

And I would never turn off data during the day. In theory the app seems cool, just dont think it would work in my life personally.

No, I don't leave my charger on the battery all night.

If you aren't having any battery issues...not sure why you came in here....

the battery issues are more software related if anything. Leaving a charger on should not adversely affect anything based on how chargers work these days.

I was just making a point that 75% (or more) or people with smart phones charge nightly, so shutting off data wouldnt matter if your phone is plugged in.

I guess you are in the minority. Enjoy the app if it works well for you.

I personally, dont think it would work with a vast majority of peoples charging schedules.

omg...this isn't about the charger.

As I said, the MotoBlur "SOFTWARE" is constantly being used...therefore....turning off data...stops the constant updates....which drains the battery......THROUGHOUT THE DAY.

If this does not apply to you...please just leave so the ppl that have complained about this issue can make their own decision about it..

Ok, I get what your saying, take it easy.

But if you turn off data on a moto blur phone....why even get the phone?

Just saying...

As described in the article......I don't need data running while I'm asleep or at work. I can't even use my phone at my job for security reasons.

So I don't need my battery being drained.

I'm not new to smartphones, I had a Blackberry before this.

Again, if you don't think it would be of any help to you please move to the next thread.

If you read the reviews of the Devour and Backflip...you would know what I'm referring to.

good day.

I don't understand your dickery.

You don't need data when you're asleep.

Data drains batteries.

Instead of an app to shut off data why don't you just charge your battery at night?

i get the work thing, but at the same time, why don't you turn the phone off while you're at work? Saves batteries with no app.

I have an Eris (no Motoblur here) and I get what you're saying. My phone has terrible battery life as well but I have to agree with Chris here. I just charge it every night (sometimes during the day as well and I always have a car charger with me). Android is just not great as far as battery life (the Moto Droid seems to be the best). I refuse to even have a task or app killer on my phone simply bc according to Phandroid, it's not recommended for Android phones (although store reps have told me differently). Who knows? I'm not messing with a good thing...and I can live with the battery life. As Chris said, if you're used to smartphones, this is really nothing new.
