Restocking Fee Help

Verizon81

Dec 29, 2009, 12:23 PM
we purchased 2 moto droids....got our first bill and see that our employer discount does not work on smartphone/pda's just blackberry data. The salesman told us that we would get the same discount.

I called the 800 number and the lady stated that we would be charged a restocking fee. Is that true? The reason I ask is we bought the phone on the premise our bill would be the same...we are not returning them just for the sake of returning them and getting a different phone.

help? and thanks

Verizon81,

I know the first bill is always a killer (pro-ration, actiivation fees - which sometimes employers take care of, usually not) but your discount should be X amount of ALL data, not just Blackberry. (Ususally 25% if you work for a major corp) The only catch is that the account must be in the employee's name i.e. if you work for Wal-Mart, but it's in your wife's name, the discount does not apply (unless she also has one with her employer). If you heard this from a customer service rep, ignore it. I have found that about 65% of the 1-800 reps are misinformed in various degrees. I suggest going into a store and talking with someone about applicable discounts.

In a nutshell, to get to your other question, restock fees are only wai...

I thought you had 30 days to try it out and if you did not like you could cancel and pay nothing.

that is if you cancel. He wants to exchange the droids for something else. there is a restocking fee if you choose a phone and then decide you want another one later.

That being said, I would deff go back to the store you bought it at and talk to them. if they promised you a data discount and it's not possible to get it on the droid, they should deff waive restocking fee imo.

most discounts with major companys are for voice only (at least with AT&T), there are a select few that the discount will cover the entire bill and not just the voice...

With Verizon, most of the employee discounts will have data discount attached, it does not have to be blackberry. Go back to the store that you purchased the devices from and check the discount information. If you are to receive the discount, then they can get it readded and request to have it retro to when you activated the droids.

Data discounts, when available, are almost always for data plans on the primary line and not on the secondary lines.

That's odd. The discount I get is X% on the primary line, and X2% on data. Is your plan, not including data, $79.99 or more? If so, ask why you aren't a "VIP". There is no restocking fee if you qualify for that service level. You would then also qualify for 25% off all accessories.

Didnt Verizon stop offering discounts on data? Maybe you guys were grandfathered in under the old rules when you had a blackberry but not when the feature code was changed to a PDA plan

The discount applies to voice, data (not just BlackBerry), and even text/picture messaging if they are not an add on to a plan. I have the 1350 plan for $99.99 which includes unlimited text and picture plus $29.99 for data and my discount (18%) applies to the total amonut of $129.99. I suggest visiting http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/employee/e maildomainauthentication.jsp and enter your work email address. An email will be sent to you from Verizon telling you the percentage discount. You then click on the link, enter your name and mobile # and the discount is automatically applied. Hope this helps.

Great...so if we really do get a data discount can we go back to the droids or are we stuck now? We only changed because we were told we lost the discount....sigh

You should be able to go back to the droids. Go back to a corporate store and explain the situation, they will honor it.

When you go into the store, have the person helping you verify your employee discount info. Also, thru your employer, should have a business representative. Contact them to verify as well.
