Just Moved & phone doesn't work...anyway out of contract?
Hey everybody!! Just moved from Florida to upstate NY...(I know everybody is going to say 'why would I do that'..believe me I have heard my share of it) Anyways....I have 5 phones on a family share plan. The phones do not work at my house which I knew was the case because nobody's does but I need my phone to work at my job and there is just no service. In your experiences, do you think there will be anyway that I can get out of my phone's contract without a fee? I would be willing to keep the other 4 with VZW since again...no phone will work at my house anyways. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Unless Verizon Wireless just doesn't offer service in your region of the country (which they do) I doubt you can get out of your agreement. Verizon Wireless cannot guarantee coverage in every nook and cranny of the U.S.

part of the terms and conditions is to provide service where you live, i've heard of plenty of cases of people getting out of contracts without paying early termination fees because of no service where they move to, just have to reach the right cs rep

There is nothing in the terms and conditions that says they must provide service at your residence. Unless Verizon Wireless, or any other carrier for that matter, does not provide service in your area of the country there isn't much you can do. They do offer service extenders to help in areas with less coverage.

Are you asking because you want to know what it says? No where in the terms and conditions for any ANY wireless carrier does it say the provider it required to provide service in specific places, including your residence or office.

No. You need to reach tech support and have them open a trouble ticket on your home address. If nothing works there then you SHOULD be allowed to terminate with no ETF. Understand that they will test the area outdoors. If they get a phone to work outdoors at your address then they will not allow you out as they do not guarantee indoor coverage. No one does.

Not sure how much a service extender would work. My phone runs in emergency only mode and hits off of AT&T. If I force it to CDMA only, I can sometimes get a 1X with no bars but no EVDO at all. Its rough!!

If you have high speed internet your phone will work just fine with a service extender.

Yeah, it picks up AT&T but the signal indicator just says SOS so I am assuming it can only be used for 911 calls

I had a similar experience last year, but that living situation was temporary so I decided to stick it out with Verizon. They were willing to let me out of my contract. However, they will first send their crew out to your address and will run some tests, and if there's no service, they will let you out of your contract, ETF free. This was my experience...forgive me if someone else said the same thing (I didn't read your replies).

Depends. If your phone works AT your house, but not INSIDE OF your house, then I'd say that your best bet would be to try the network extender (because you won't get out of your contract if the problem only rears its head indoors). If your phone doesn't work around your house, however, then there's a chance that you'll be able to get out of your contract without an ETF.

There is a possibility that he lives in a Known Trouble Area (KTA) If they pull up his address and that is the case. They will likely let him out. He just needs to get the ball rolling. I would not even MENTION the work address....just the home.

There was service down the street both ways but not at my house. With a little bit of patience and persistence, VZW MIGHT be able to do the same. This may sound like a crazy question, but did you do a *228 reprogram when you got to NY?
I'm from upstate NY, and every time I'm there I get good service. All of my family in NY is on Verizon. But every time I visit, I have to recalibrate my phone. If I don't, I get poor coverage.

Call into customer service and tell them you are not getting service. If they check the map and your address is in a no service or extended network then you will be able to cancel without an etf, you can even see the map at verizonwireless.com. if it is in a digital coverage area then, as someone previously stated, they can speak with tech support to open a trouble ticket. If there is no resolution from that then they will allow you to terminate without an etf

Actually, I live in Hope, NY in Hamilton County in the Adirondacks. No service for that matter will work up here. I am going to try one of those wireless extenders at work and see if that takes care of it. There is not a phone service that will even come close to where I live so in that respect it doesn't matter.
