It looks as though T-Mobile subscribers will have two big reasons reasons to rejoice come November 11th, but they’re not the only ones with cause for celebration in the near future. Let’s not forget that Windows Mobile fans around the world will have a reason to party well ahead of that; in fact, one of our trusty ninjas has just added to the Windows Phone fray with the juicy tidbit that on October 6th — the day Windows Mobile 6.5 devices lift off globally — Verizon Wireless plans to get in on the action with the HTC Imagio. Codenamed Whitestone and previously mistaken for the Touch Diamond2, the Imagio features WinMo 6.5 along with a 3.6-inch WVGA touchscreen display, a 528MHz Qualcomm processor, 512MB ROM/256MB RAM, a...

Two new smartphones? By October? Is this truly going to change the balance? Stop any subscribers from jumping ship for the Iphone? Cool! VZW can shut down the Winback team now. Stop whoring themselves to get AT&T port outs to come back. I think it is great that you were thoughtful enough to post this info, but that last slap was totally uncalled for.

For a while, people have knocked on the VZW smartphone selection as being either a BlackBerry or an Omnia. Now, with the additions of the Ozone, Touch Pro 2, the TWO new Android devices, it's a whole new ballgame.

Let's check off what people want:

Nationwide 3G network - Check
Good selection of smartphones - Check
Largest wireless network nationwide - Check
The worlds largest mobile community - Check
Aggressive pricing on smartphones - Check

I am certainly not someone thrilled about the company I work for, but I can say this, VZW is getting it right for the customers, finally. It's cheaper to walk in and buy a BlackBerry than an LG, and only slightly higher than an Env Touch, to get a Touch Pro 2.

It's not just about winnin...

Technically speaking, Sprint has the largest mobile community IF you get their 69.99 anything plan but thats only if you get that plan. As a VZW subscriber, I am excited to get my hands on some nice Android devices.

In reality, it'll probably slow significantly defections to other carriers for smartphones. Given aggressive pricing and the poorer network of other carriers, this is a smart move.

But it's not going to win anyone back who has already left for the simple reason they're still likely under contract with other carriers.

true dat

and the whole iphone thing...

it's sort of a one of a kind device, so the people who really really want the iphone will port reguardless of what else is out there, unless verizon gets it.

all i know is, i cant wait to get a new android device on the nations fastest most reliable 3G network! lolzzz 🤣

AT&T port outs? Verizon has had the lowest of that then ANY wireless network. You know whats a slap for totally uncalled for? All the droped calls, networks problems, lack of 3G, and network outages AT&T has. Thats uncalled for.

And thats not the only smartphone we will get from now until Oct. The Omnia 2 will be out. Maybe even the Storm 2. After that, the Curve 2, Motorola Android.

Get your info right before you open your mouth.

If you deny Winback exists and the ferocity which they go after customers who have ported out to AT&T then YOU need to get your facts straight before you open YOUR mouth. If they took care of the customer BEFORE they ported out they wouldn't have to bend over backwards and give away the farm to get them back. Of course, when the customer has ported for the Iphone (as is often the case) it is all for naught anyway.

Verizon Wireless Maintains Lowest Churn Rate
11/08/2008

Four years and counting. New data shows Verizon Wireless had the lowest churn rate among the nation’s wireless carriers in the third quarter ┝€ the 16th consecutive quarter it’s held that bragging right.

The churn rate represents the percentage of customers who leave their carrier in a month and is an important measure of customer loyalty. Third quarter financial performance announcements ┝€ the latest was released Friday ┝€ showed Verizon’s churn rate was only slightly more than 1 percent.

Quoting churn rates does not mean anything. Customers still leave. Not as many as other carriers sure. I never stated that VZW's churn rate was higher. I've been here seven years. Sure I know that Cingular under Sigman and now AT&T under whomever is running the store now have envied Verizon's lowest churn rate. Again...my point is some do leave. When they see customer's have ported to AT&T they lose their minds. Throw everything but the kitchen sink at them to get them back.

Nice to see you made that clear.

Oh, and the kitchen sink is thrown at them too. Usually so they won't come back. 😉

It is nothing of the sort. The original post was informative, but the last sentence was inflammatory and unnecessary. I have no reason to shoot at VZW. I have VZW service. I don't even care about new smartphones. Just suddenly getting a couple of new devices is not a game changer and certainly nothing to be telling anyone to shut up about.

My bad! I apologize. I feel for AT&T. They are not a bad company. I just believe that in their greed to get the Iphone that they underestimated the impact that immense amounts of data traffic would have on their network. They are slowly rolling out their 850 mhz spectrum in some markets and that should help some. AT&T is just as aggressive to get their customers that have ported back. Just yesterday, my employer and her two sons ported from AT&T to Verizon. By the time she got back to her home the phone was ringing with AT&T wanting to offer bonus minutes, etc. anything to get her back.

People "not in the know" flock to AT&T because you can bundle your mobile, home phone, internet, and now tv and get discounts. That on the surfac...

I agree. The fact that the iPhone is on ATT's "wonderful" network (insert sarcasm here) is probably the main draw for people joining. I really hope that these "smart phones" make their way to the Big Red cause as I said I've liked Verizon since I've had them and dont intend to leave. There have been times that I wish they would get different types of phones but if they do great and if not I'll make due with what they have.

You are the biggest idiot here. AT&T has one of the worse networks right now. Verizon is not doing everything they can to keep customers. Sprint is. We don't loose our minds when customers port out, but when someone else gets the iPhone or when Verizon does, AT&T will be hurting.

Really? I don't recall any name-calling on my part. As to what Winback does to "winback" AT&T port outs... I guess I made it all up. I suppose I don't merely dislike rabid fanboys of other carriers but my carrier as well. Perhaps that is why the original post rubbed me the wrong way. They train us to give all the selling points of our own devices and to knock the Iphone. IF or WHEN we get an Iphone THEN it will be the next best thing since sliced bread because suddenly it is on OUR network. Maybe you can be brainwashed and parrot that bull until you actually believe the bs but not me.
