Verion Reps: What can I do with prepaid phone?

I have an Verizon prepaid phone I used for 2 months, and don't need any more. (Business assignment in eastern Virginia, check out AT&T's coverage there for a good laugh.) Can I give the phone to a Verizon customer to use as a backup? If not I know I can donate or recycle it.

A verizon prepay phone can only be used on prepay service. So if someone has verizon prepay, you can offer to sell/give it to them, but a verizon contract plan won't be able to use it.

Isn't there some kind of a 6 month rule? Like 6 month after purchase, the prepaid device can be used on post pay?

Something like that. I'm not as familiar with it (our company doesn't deal with prepaid that much)

But there is a limit on how long the phone has to be inactive as well, and at least in my experience, you need to take it to a tech center before it will work.

Six months after purchase a corporate store can flash it to post-pay software and activate it.

From what I understand, it has to be activated at least six months back, not just purchased

Who buys a prepay phone without activating it? You got a few minutes of use with the phone purchase, so why not?

You'd be surprised.

I've had a couple people who bought two phones when they set up the prepay (one for a "spare") and then when their either get post-pay/go to a different carrier, they hand the prepay off to someone who brings it in still in box.

Menno,

I may be way too late on this one, but I just saw your thread and wanted to see if you did anything with that prepaid phone yet... My wife has a prepaid account that she has had for a very long time and as a result she has a much better deal than what is currently being offered. But the problem is here phone is very old and not good at all. To buy a new phone, it would cost hundreds! So I bought a new, but older model on Ebay for her and it turned out to be jungk - I got scammed and out about $60 bucks... Let me know if you still have it and if you want to get rid of it! She would really appreciate it.

Thanks
Chris

I don't have any left that I could activate on a prepay account anymore, sadly.

I do have a Moto Q, but that needs a post paid account to activate.

Thanks anyway... If you ever do get any in the future, please do post again! I really would like to get a new phone for my wife without paying hundreds!
