Fail.

The short version:

1. Be nice.
2. Don't be a jerk.

they should charge someone if they can't hit *228 option 3 which activates the phone and programs it! It's not that hard

Where did you hear this at? This is not true, you can do it online, *228 option 3, in the store, or over the phone.

Youre an idiot.

I don't think Backup Assistant works for Blackberries. Could someone confirm whether this is true or not?

This is correct. Backup Assistant is not smartphone compatible. It's pretty much the only thing I regret about joining the "Crackberry" bandwagon.

Use the Desktop Manager...much better than the Backup Assistant...it backs up the SMS, the e-mails, the settings, etc...

If you buy a phone on ebay and you come into my store expecting me to set it up for you?

Yes, you are getting charged.

You get the phone in my store, and you're actually getting an ACC or two, most likely I'm not going to charge you anything for it, unless you're a jerk. And even then, when I quote you the price for the phone, it includes those costs in them, and we're still cheaper than the other retailers in the area.

Exactly. I hate when people bring me a phone from another store or one they bought online and want me to do a phonebook swap. Nope, $10 please.

Yes, we suck because we want to make money.

If you buy the phone online, I get 0 for the sale. then you come into my store and spend an hour of my time as I go over how everything works (for free) and then you expect me to use equipment that I have to pay for and transfer your contacts/images/sounds for free as well?

that machine costs my store over $1000 dollars, and then we pay a monthly subscription to keep it up to date, not to mention the costs of the chords.

I am not a customer service rep. I am a salesman. If you're not spending a penny in my store, why should I transfer your phonebook for free?

If you want it done for free you can go to a corp store (nearest one is about an hour away) and have it transferred (unle...

the reseller by my house are all dumb asses who know nothing about phones. they don't have working phones and their prices are higher. i guess anyone who is too stupid to use backup assistant and doesn't know how to transfer their own photos deserve to get bent over by you.

We have working models of select phones (not all of them) because people here are careless with our demos and would break real phones if we had them out (they shattered several demos already) If a customer is really looking at a phone, we bring a working version out for them to look at.

Our prices are often the same as online (baring sales weekends) and we even have some models that are cheaper. We also spend a lot of time educating ourselves about our phones.

Not every retailer is the same. I work for one of the largest retailers for Verizon. We're not Mom and pop wireless LLC

still better to do a free phone book transfer and maybe gain their business down the road. I would if it was my shop in hopes of positive word of mouth thus building more clientele.

This highly depends on the area.

If the customer knows that there is a free for the transfer, but you end up waiving it, you might get their business.

But if it was a customer that came to your store, wasted your time going over phones, and then ordered online and waste more of your time because they need you to set it up.. that type of customer is a moocher and as long as you continue to give them everything for free, the customer will buy their products wherever it is cheapest and then come to you if there are problems because (you are nicer)

If the customer is calm and doesn't flip out at the mere mention of the charge, waiving it is entirely possible. How much you pay is up to you.
