Network expander?

Can anyone provide any info on a product or device from Verizon called the Network Expander. They say it's liking have a cell tower in your home and great for areas where service is low or something about your home or building is blocking reception.

Sounds great but also costs $249; anyway to get that down a bit?

Verizon admits they have pockets of service "issues" in my area so why do I have to pay them to correct the coverage? If they have this technology, shouldn't they be giving it to me to keep a satisfied customer and makeup for their short comings?

Anyone have any experience with this unit or thoughts? thx

First, it's called Network Extender.

If you're a VIP customer you get $50 off.

No carrier would just give you a $250 piece of equipment because you feel you're owed it.

Verizon has admitted that they have pockets of service issues specifically within your home or building? No carrier will claim to have perfect coverage. In fact, every carrier will tell you they can't guarantee coverage inside buildings. Gaps in coverage in your area are quite different than the gap in coverage inside your own building - don't confuse them.

I really don't see how it's their shortcoming. It's not like they're purposely keeping a tower just outside of range of your home address just to tick you off. "Shortcomings" in service occur because you c...

Epik, as for the $50 VIP discount, two questions.

1) Is this still available?

2) If so, will they see it when they pull up my account at the store? Yes, we are a VIP account already.

Just switched to the Tour from the Curve and am having signal problems in my house.

Thanks...Scott

It should still be available; it is in my area. The discount wasn't automatic, so it's something the rep or manager might have to look up if they're not familiar with it. If they don't know what you're talking about, just say that you were told by an online rep that VIP customers get a $50 discount.

Keep in mind, this device is for voice... not sure what signal issues you're having.

Thanks very much! Yes, my issue is voice related. The Curve worked great in my house, the Tour, not so much.

Also, make sure that you go into a corp store to get the additional discount.

That's one of the VIP discounts I can't offer as an indirect because if I sold it for $50 under list, I would actually be selling it below my cost.

Hey Scott!

Your signal problems are likely related to the Tour. I returned mine because of it and went back to the Curve with no issues.

Thanks for the feedback! I agree, the Curve had much better reception. I though about going back, and still may.

The Network Extender is a great product if you live in a spotty area. I bought one for my parents and they went from having one bar to full service. $250 sound steep to most people but nobody complains when they buy that $400 phone! Not saying you do, but I have to say, you get what you pay for. Verizon doesn't charge you a monthly fee to use the Network Extender like Sprint does. So consider that with the price, its a one-time flat fee. And the Network Extender works great. Yes it's basically like having your personal cell tower. It's easy to set up too.

Its a great product. I put one in at my gradnparents lake house where no one can get service but Verizon, which is one bar. It adds full service and sounds good.

Verizon = $250 for the equipment and no monthly cost

Sprint = $50 for equipment and $4.99 per month.

At this rate it would take 3.33 years to make up that cost difference.

Sprint "VIP" customer get the equipment at no cost with no monthly fee.

When you sell the farm, the tractor often comes with it.

I got a $100 off of mine, but It wasnt easy and I had to really fight for it.

The device works okay for me, but it is VERY inconsistent. Sometimes the voice quality is great, other times its horrible.
