I've seen your post for days now, and hesitated to comment because I'm not your typical sales rep and I'm not entirely happy with my job right now. But I'll give it a stab. Literally. I'm going to stab it.

I've been with the company in sales for five years. It's a great company to work for. It's also a frustrating company to work for.

I've seen us swing between the most customer-friendly carrier and the least customer-friendly carrier many times. I've seen us practically sell the farm for customers, and a year later, practically tell the customer to screw off through policy and fee structures.

I've been in meetings belittling me for breaking with policy because it was right for the customer - been put on discipline many times ...

That really sounds like so many jobs these days. Great post. (But don't ever aspire to be one of the thieves on Wall Street...)

I loved the part about not needing to be micro-managed. Inspiring!!!

This brought a tear to my eye. Beautifully put with much taste. I would love to work with/for this individual (unless his/her linguistics are a false front, which I doubt)

Thank you for this comment, and all the other comments after my response to the OP.

I fear that my time with the company is mostly behind me. A long time ago, when I took this job, I had the hardest time with it. I come from a different grain, a different mentality. I had to sacrifice a part of who I am to do well at this job. The parts that were left were successful enough to convince me that I didn't need to be myself all the time.

Then, my home life turn to rubble. For almost a year I practically showed up for work, pretended to care, and went home to my mess of a life. I was lucky I didn't get fired. People I worked with were there for me when they didn't have to be.

Then my life turned around. I stopped worrying about f...

I think Verizon Wireless needs more people like you and they should be very lucky and proud to have you.

You are someone to look up to. Thank you for you're words of wisdom. 🙂 I appreciated them!

familyguy-

If you're considering working for Verizon because of job security, consider an indirect (authorized retailer) where the money is better. Most of them don't force you to sell as many accessories or data before losing your job. There's less pressure. The trade off is the benefits won't be as great i.e. 401K medical benefits. We have a TON of corporate reps that apply with us, very few of which actually make it. There's a certain mindset (I'm not saying ALL corp reps, just a great many) that if you're selling a low end plan with few accessories, you're doing a bad thing. In my trade, if I sell a "free" phone on a low rate plan, I still make 100 bucks on a new activation. Our leaders are different because we work 100% commission (n...

I've seen two ads for your company this morning.

As an employee of Verizon Wireless, I've had times where I failed miserably for long stretches and no one threatened to fire me. Ironically, the managers that did threaten to fire me were the ones who nit-picked one or two metrics during good month. They don't work for the company any more.

The benefits are great. My wife and I paid about $100 in doctor visits and hospital stay to have a baby. I had a serious medical situation and paid $50 to cover everything. I only do the 1% 401k match, and yet the company puts in more because of our success. I've had raises in my base pay almost every year in five years. I've never made less than $55k a year (my first year).

A $10 plan is a ...

I've read the other posts...and there is some interesting things here. However...the answer that should have been provided is very simple: be yourself. Don't put on a show to try and lie about who you are to get the job only to be found out later. The questions you'll be asked are designed to find out about who you are and whether or not you'll fit into the company. The other thing to remember...this is a customer service based company. Yes, you're applying for a sales position but without customer service, you won't succeed. Too many people say "forget about the customers"...that's the wrong attitude. Without the customers, you won't have a job. Those are my words of advice for you...good luck.
