Network Extender Restricted Coverage Area Question

I recently purchased a network extender box, installed it and had it operating for 1 day. It worked fantastic for me and I was convinced that it was the answer I had been looking for to improve my coverage. After a day I noticed that the system light was blinking red and that the device was no longer working. I tinkered with it for a few hours, then called the Verizon support line. Tier 1 said that the problem was on their end and he would have a level 2 tech call me. After a few days I called Support again. The tech said that the reason why the device stopped working is because Verizon had to stop providing network extender coverage in my county. He admitted that they did provide the service when I first activated the device but that Verizo...

I'm betting it has something to do with this:

With the Alltel/RCC acquisitions, VZW has been forced to divest several markets. In this document there are several areas of Illinois mentioned. My Illinois geography knowledge is a little lacking, but if VZW decided to keep the Alltel/RCC assets in your area and divest the existing VZW base instead, that would explain why they would have to shut off your network extender.

However this map...

...doesn't show any VZW holdings being divested in Illinois. If this map is right (and I trust the FCC doc way more then this thing) then I have no idea what could be going on....

No, I haven't heard anything from Verizon. I went to the local corporate store and they are completely stumped. They were going to try and get ahold of some VIP at the beginning of this coming week. I really don't know anything more for the moment.

Thanks for the link. I do notice on page 4 of the FCC Document it makes reference to Illinois Valley Cellular RSA 2-II Partnership that is the carrier in my area also. Not a particularly good choice for me thats why I went with Verizon in the first place. I don't understand what the document is referring to when it makes mention of Illinois Valley Cellular - can you enlighten me a little on what it means?

You could always re-program your phone to pick up the other cdma carriers that will force it to roam on the other network !! What type of phone do you have?

1 Blackberry Pearl, 1 LG ENv2, 2 Samsung Jukes and 1 LG Chocolate v2. I know that there is a cell tower about 2 1/2 air miles from my home that is operated by Illinois Valley Cellular. I believe that I sometimes catch that tower and roam off it at home. I also hit a Verizon tower about 3 air miles from my home occasionally as well. Either way the best I have ever been able to get is 1 bar - and that is outside my home. Thats why the Network Extender was such a "godsend" for me.

Well The LG phones are the easy ones to do I am not sure about the samsung and the blackberry the only thing I know you could do for the blackberry is download the prl of the company that should work where you live you need a prl writer to do that just go to crackberry.com and they can help you if all else fails!! The LG You are going to need to manual program the phone and find the menu called force mode and you have to change that around till you get coverage I know there is a way to do this on a samsung but I have never done this before on them
