Verizon laying off sales reps around the country

So, you guys hear about this recession thing? We've now been relayed two distinct stories of layoffs inside Verizon's sales ranks within the last 24 hours, though it's not clear whether the recent Alltel acquisition has anything to do with 'em. First off, we're told that virtually all -- 90 percent or more -- of Circuit City-based reps have lost their jobs. Though the move might seem make sense in light of Circuit City's failure, it's important to note that these folks were not Circuit City employees -- indeed, they were employed directly by Big Red...

Believe it or not, it does cost money to run a cellphone company.
NEW YORK – For all of 2008, Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) posted a profit of $6.43 billion, a 16.43 percent increase from its 2007 profit of $5.52 billion, on full-year revenue that grew 4.2 percent to $97.4 billion. Earnings per diluted common share rose to $2.26 from the preceding year’s $1.90 per share.
And they are laying off reps. Why? So a couple of executives can take an extra million dollar bonus? Or the board can have an extra money on the side?
I'm back in the USA for 3 freakin weeks and this is the shi# I have to come home to?
Sorry, not at you Menno...
Also VZW did not want to lay off people, bu due to Circuit going out of business there was really little option. I can tell you that in my region they tried to get as many people as possible into open positions in other stores to minimize the lay offs.
Unfortunately sometimes these things happen. At least we are not Sprint, laying off 8000 or ATT laying off 12000.
This is disappointing, but it's hard to find placements for that many employees so fast, especially in an economy like ours is currently and in months that are bad for sales to begin with.
It's not a good time to be fresh out of college right now... Hopefully their experience with Verizon won't hurt them getting other jobs. I have friends who were denied employment at fast food resturants because they were "overqualified" from being a shift manager at lowes.
PM me and I will give you an email address to send your resume.
Thanks

As previously mentioned I am opening stores in DFW. I would be glad to interview anyone who has been released from Verizon due to cut-backs. We will be a premium agent and have stores throughout the metroplex.

This is a great opportunity for anyone in the DFW area...Nice texas, very nice...
I try to run a good ship and hope this will be mutually beneficial.
