A Blackberry Storm with Wi-Fi? Wouldn't that be nice. Talk about overcoming objections...

Verizon should have a pearl flip, bold, and curve 2 before the end of 2009.

The link mentioned those other things, but that is not the thing that I am concerned with. My post was about a Storm with Wi-Fi. If I ever trade up from my Curve (which isn't likely to be anytime soon with finances being what they are) it would likely be for the Bold, but the whine I get is about the Storm not having Wi-Fi. And yes, I know the company line is that it doesn't need Wi-Fi. I get that. I REALLY DO. But it's not about what it needs, it's about what the haters claim they want and throwing a little Wi-Fi in with the other seven or so radios would shut that down.

Did you see the speed tests on Crackberry.com? The Storm loaded pages twice as fast as the iphone WITH wi-fi. It totally destroyed it on 3G. although nice Wi-Fi is so overrated.

I agree. Wi-Fi IS vastly overrated. Still, I see no reason for it not to be included. There are legitimate objections for which the "our broadband network is better than WiFi" just doesn't work. The globetrotter who spends a significant amount of time outside of the U.S. as well as the customer who does not get a decent EVDO signal at his home. Bottom line...just put the Wi-Fi in the next version.

all i know is i would get a lil pissed, the coverage in my house sucks i almost cant use the browser, but my laptop works fine with comcast and wifi, so did my 6800. i also thought about gettin the vodafone storm and using it here for the voice/data at the same time... but att is even worse here and no 3g at all.

but ya, the storm needs wifi. period.

This is like the Bluetooth and the GPS also.

1. Verizon wanted to lock down Bluetooth in 2004 so they could collect 25 cents per picture on VZWPIX. $$

2. Verizon locks down WiFi and requires mandatory data plans on PDAs so that users can't just pay for voice and enjoy data on home or public connections. $$

3. Verizon locks down GPS so it can collect money for VZ Navigator instead. $$

You haven't mentioned not being able to get Windows Live Search Mobile on your BB Storm yet...

hey man a lot of other phones have wifi with vzw, and honestly after using the storm, i think the wifi issue was more battery life then anything, or maybe an overall cost issue, and they will claim its for security reasons, but other bb's have it. who knows, but if the storm comes out in canada with wifi, i might consider getting one for use in the states.

Verizon Wireless also has a contract with RIM (Blackberry) to put a data plan on all of the Blackberry models sold. More or less blame Blackberry for option 2.

Its only Verizon now that has the contract with them I believe. I have T-mobile and do not require one.

Not putting wifi on the storm has nothing to do with trying to generate more revenue. Blackberry devices require a data package, so the revenue on data is guaranteed, whether you use it or not. In fact, it would actually improve the network to have wifi on the phone because whoever is using that connection still pays for a BB plan, but doesn't put load on the network.

Didn't they ship a few hundred thousand of them already at $249.95 on a 3-year service agreement with minimum $45 voice and data plan?

Say the data portion is $30 x 500,000 units x 36 months = $540,000,000.00

You realize the WiFi chip only adds about $4 to the cost of each unit, right? 😲

Sorry, 3 yrs was for Canada Bell and Telus. Still, paying $30 /month x 24 months is much different than just paying $4 for the WiFi function on the mobile unit.

My reply was in response to someone who said that revenue was not a factor when the decision was made to not have WiFi.

I love how Verizon will get the Curve 2 but its a GSM only phone.. don't you work for Verizon Wireless? 🤣

Just how the original curve was GSM only...oh wait, then they released a freakin CDMA version. Don't try to call me out, cause you obviously dont know what you're talking about.

THe CDMA versions of the bold (currently codenamed Niagara), curve 2 (curently codenamed jupiter), and pearl flip (currently codenamed apex) should all be released before the end of 2009.

So to answer your obnoxious question, yes, verizon will see a version of the curve 2

And no, I dont work for verizon

My only issue was that your guessing, and giving customers a false hope when your not 100% sure. Where is the source, as you would say, to this information? Just guessing that the Curve2 will come out for a CDMA network? No information that I can find. I appreciate the sarcastic remarks. Really, I expected better out of you.

Look,

I don't post garbage information on this website or any other that I post on. I have multiple sources in the cell industry, including several at verizon. Rumors always contain an element of guessing, thats why people come to these types of websites...they want to know something.

If you don't like rumors, why even read blogs or post on a site like this? All I have to say is that my info is pretty legit, and I will even post a few sources from crackberry where I got this info. (BGR is the one who originally reported it I believe)

Can't users just buy one in Canada then activate it with *228 Option 3 with the "Any Device" Policy now?
