Trouble getting ringtones on Moto Rapture

Having a horrid time trying to figure out how to get ringtones onto my VU30 from my computer. If I email them, they can be saved to the phone, but they randomly save as either My Sounds or My Ringtones, with no discernable pattern as to which files go to which folder. In My Ringtones the file can be set as a ringtone, but not in My Sounds. I've tried MIDI files, mp3s and WAV files. Am I doing something wrong?

you should get the option on how you want to save them when you receive them. Try taking one of the ones that went to your my sounds folder and mms it to yourself

Tried that. Didn't work. Thanks for the suggestion though. 🙂

I was able to get ringtones transfered from my computer using www.funformobile.com so that may help.

As for Vcast Song ID...I can't get it to work. I downloaded it ok, and it opens quickly but it never successfully identifies a song. I think the mic that picks up sound is crap! I called VZW and they said it may be a manufactuer flaw. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I can get the tones sent OK, just can't get them SAVED to the right place on my phone. They arrive in my Inbox, I hit "Save Sound," and there's no option given WHERE to save them to on the phone. So sometimes they save to the My Ringtones folder, sometimes to the My Sounds folder. In My Sounds, there is no option to set any file as a ringtone. (What is the purpose of having that category at all, I wonder???...)

You have to use a data cable to push the ringer files to the my_ringers folder on the phone.

What kind of cable? How does it work? Do I need special software? Any further details will be much appreciated!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Use the built-in micro-USB connector. Try out the VU30 forum for phone specific questions.

Thanks, but I still don't know what to do once I connect the cable... Sorry to be so dumb.

I did try posting on the VU30 forum; so far no responses

Just saw your post on the VU30 forum. I'll try out what you suggest. 🙂

Yeah I tried doing the email thing as you suggest on the VU30 forum (renaming to ~AlertFile***.mid, etc.), but it did not work. When I got the renamed files on my phone's inbox via email, they would only save to My Sounds, and can't be set as ringtones. Pain in the a**.

Gee, my bad. I guess it's because I'm just naive or stupid, unlike you...

Wow. I'd forgotten how, when you post straightforward questions on this forum, sooner or later you always get some jerk coming at you with a nasty response.

My last phone, the V325, was hardly "fancy-schmancy" and I was able to email sound files to it and set them as ringtones. That's all I'm trying to do with my VU30, which has quite a few more whistles and bells than my old phone.

But what do I know?

The only other way to do this on a Verizon phone is to get a data cable to connect the phone to a PC, install Motorola drivers from a program called Motorola Software Update to get a connection, then post in the phone hacking forums for the location of the /my_ringers folder on the phone.

P2K Commander is the software of choice; http://s5vi.vxxxstuff.com/ however you must be aware that adding files in this manner can void your warranty.

Some phones, like the Storm, make this process easy, others make it ~almost impossible. You would think there should be an easier way, especially if you already bought the ringers for your other phones, or made your own.
