Is the Krave a dud??

The apparent total lack of interest in this phone has me a little surprised. Nobody ever mentions it here and even on the forum devoted specifically to the Krave, there hasn't been a single post in two weeks. Why? Is the phone that bad? OK..I know the clear flip cover kinda gets in the way of using the virtual QWERTY keyboard, but it doesn't totally block it. I also know that the touch features on the flip cover are limited, but at least it has a cover to protect the main screen and at least you can do a few basics with it. I have been reading reviews and watching reviews on youtube about this phone and it seems like a solid performer. I just can't figure out why it's not more popular. Any comments?

I've noticed it's a bit laggy. Maybe we have a bad model, but like the Storm pre-software update, it just lags for a second or so each time you try to enter a new screen.
I've had the Krave at my store for a week or two now and nobody has shown much interest in it. I think it's mostly due to the price.

Hmm...I've had a chance to play with two different Kraves at two different stores. I didn't really notice a bad lag (maybe a little when opening up the music palyer). This price is too high and I bet you're right...that could be why it's not more popular. I have about two more months before I can switch back to VZW so I hope the price drops by then. I like the Krave. I'm probably going with either the Krave or the enV2 and I like the Krave for it's coolness factor. The enV2 is a great phone but I think I'd get bored with it quickly.

Yeah, I keep hearing about how great the call quality is. That's very important to me. Exactly how bad is texting on the Krave? I don't text much now, but that might change with the new VZW plan. When I played around with a store phone I was able to type accurately with one finger (my right index). When I tried using my thumbs I hit the wrong keys a lot.

The Krave is a great phone if you have the patience to "Learn" the touch handset. It also needs a firmware update badly. I have the v23 firmware which improves it alot from the v19 which is still shipping with the phone.

If you like media in a handset, it is hard to beat, with the TV, Visual Voicemail, 8GB MMC card, and awesome Openwave 7 HTML browser.

You will hate this phone if you just expect to pick it up and dial though. The scroll lists can seem to glide or 'run away', until you understand that it is also controlled by left-right positions as well as up-down. The documentation is very poor, so you will be discovering things like how to mark calls for deletion, do speed dialing, etc.

I took about two weeks to learn all it...

Presently holding the #1 button is the only conventional Speed Dial and connects to voice mail, *86. There is a firmware update in the works.

The phone has 3 ICE contacts, and "Favorites", so you can get to your 1 touch contacts with 2 taps.

OK...Bare with me a second. Let's say I want the fastest possible way to call my wife's cell. I would put her number in one of the "Favorites" spots. Now, I want to call her. I open the phone and hit what?

Touch Contacts, slide to Favorites, then touch the little phone icon next to her name.

Phone then dials her default number and shows her caller ID pic at full screen resolution. If you don't want her default number, you touch her name instead of the icon and get a list of choices, home, mobile, work, etc.

So it's two presses? One to bring up Contacts and one for the icon by her name...right? Heck, that's not bad at all. I have to do 2 key presses on my current phone for speed dials. I wonder why so many people complain about "the lack of speed dial" on the Krave. Sounds to me like it has it (at least for a few numbers). I only have 4 set on my current phone anyway.

The documentation is not good on the Krave. The little icon to the right of the contact is for one touch dialing however you won't find that feature in the manual. Most people therefore just tap the name on the list and hit from the sublist.

Sending your whole contact list by Bluetooth to Outlook is another undocumented feature.
