Not happy with VZW

OK...so for those few features & after all of the mystery taxes are slapped on, i pay no less than $80+/month. So, i go through my bill the other day and notice that there are megabyte charges included as well. So i call up VZW and ask what they were for, and she says for going onto the mobile web. I told her i don't do that (i'm not adding even MORE money onto my already high-as-hell bill every month). THEN she tells me it's for going onto GET IT NOW. Really? REALLY?????? you're charging me f...

And considering the data charges are costing you more than the per-MB charge, adding VCAST or a Mobile Web plan would probably be a good choice.
Why should you not be charged when you are using their data? Their data fees are the lowest in the biz and more than fair.
and just go to mobile17.com if you want to just get ringtones texted to you for free.
Browsing a VERIZON site should be free. Anything else, charge appropriately.

ALL CELL CARRIERS CHARGE FOR THIS. This is not just a verizon thing, but verizon does offer the lowest rates of any carrier.
And your mall analogy doesn't really work...the mall has to power the lights and everything else whether or not YOU enter the doors (there are other people in play here, you might not buy something, but someone else might) Verizon however, isnt using any of their bandwidth if you never log on to the data network. As soon as you log on, you are now receiving a service. If you wanna play around, then pay for it.
What if I want to just "browse" sports scores....or just "browse" on amazon mobile. If they allow if for ringtones, then Im sure there are other things you will want to browse for free.
The easy thing to do is just say, "if you on mobile web, your paying for it. PERIOD." Verizon needs to have a clear uniform policy and Im okay with the way they do it.
You are being provided with a service (mobile web) so you should pay for it just like everyone else. Plus, can verizon really distinguish between ringtone browsing and regular mobile web use? My guess is that this could be an issue as well.

I am starting to think the government should regulate EVERTYTHING because the corporations are all in cahoots.
Your other alternative of course is to take a vow of poverty.

Even though you don't pay to get in the door at the store they do charge you. They increase the cost of items to pay for overhead like powering the building and heating. Every time you buy something you put money towards those things
So I guess the question is... Would you rather pay for a service when you use it (browsing gin, mobile web) or pay EXTRA every time you purchase something??
Believe me on this one if vzw didn't charge 1.99/mb, EVERY customer would have to pay more monthly whether THEY browsed or not. So other people would pay for services you use. Then there would be the power users that use 100s of megabytes a month and ...

You claimed that, "Even though you don't pay to get in the door at the store they do charge you."
How, pray tell, do they charge me IF I DO NOT BUY SOMETHING? No purchase...no added cost.
You then state, "They increase the cost of items to pay for overhead like powering the building and heating."
No kidding? I suppose you think VZW does not charge "extra" to cover costs of running computers and data centers from which to download ringtones, etc? Of course they do, and they would continue to do so whether or not the browsing time itself got billed. Do you think VZW paid $1.99 for a ringtone, and then charged the same amount for it? No, they are making a profit on it...

I was contemplating going to AT&T and getting the iPhone anyway, which has the unlimited internet included in the plan. Not completely sure, but it's a possibility.
You can pay half that, $15, for get the VCAST VPak that offers you unlimited data Mobile Web along with VCAST browsing and Get it Now Browsing.
And AT&T's data network is a lot slower. Edge is not fun but I don't think the iPhone has Edge, does it? (I cannot remember!!!)
More bars claim compares AT&T's network before to after merger.
There you have it, found it right on their website. Their "more bars" claim is a sham, they don't have better coverage, its just a compairison of the "before and after" illustion of the network merger. haha

AT&T's claim of more bars in more places is based on all the international roaming agreements they have. Those billboards that claim AT&T works in different places around the globe were all over the place last year.
Now, when it comes to national U.S. coverage, Verizon beats AT&T 2 to 1.

Their signal bounces a lot. I've used GSM for over 5 years, and now that I just switched to CDMA, I like it a lot better.

I know someone who has the original iPhone, and it's got EDGE. The newest one has 3G added to it, and reverts to EDGE outside of 3G coverage areas.
Sprint, Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile WHATEVER...it all works great.
it'll take a little bit of effort on your part but once you're all set up it will be well worth it.
go to myxertones.com.
sign up for a FREE account.
enjoy searching through thousands of ringtones, pictures and games etc...
with vzw, you CANNOT send tones, etc...directly to your phone.
open a special folder on your computer where you would put all that stuff. the site will ask you to save it to a location on your computer instead of downloading it to your phone.
then, go to funformobile.com. This website has a FREE ringtone uploader tool. just choose your service provider, enter in your number and click "browse". then find the fi...

T-Mobile does not charge you for browsing their mobile sites for ringers, graphics, games, etc.

yeah, but i've tried T-Mobile...twice....and their coverage is extremely spotty in my area unfortunately ☹️
I had T-Mobile too, they're coverage is not that great. I just left AT&T for Verizon because AT&T's signal strength and coverage is just so inconsistent. With Verizon, I have solid reception and I don't break out as much.
But I do agree with you on the outrageousness that Verizon, AT&T, and other cellular companies charge for things.
I did buy a small mobile internet plan for my first month, so I could customize my phone, but I am going to cancel it and just keep the calling plan and the small text messaging package, which buy the way, I get more messages with Verizon's 5 dol...

BTW, I use Zedge.net for my free stuff...
Funny how you post a thread to either get information or just vent about something, and you get a-holes chiming in with their cheap 2-cents and rude comments...seriously, if you feel like a posting is aggrivating or a waste of your time: then just click out of it and keep it movin. it's just THAT simple.
Have a lovely day.
If a cell phone plan is too expensive, you have options. Payphones, prepay, heck there are many other options. I even gave you a great resource for FREE stuff.
Dude, you need to take a break...
water under the bridge...be good bro
First off, let's say that you happen to go over your 450 minutes in any given month on an older plan. Let's also say that you happen to have twenty data sessions that're each one minute in length. (For the record, those would show up at calls to 777-000-0001 on your bill.)
The overage rate on a 450-minute plan is $.45/min. That means that you'd be charged $.45 x 20 in this case, which is $9.00. In most cases, twenty data sessions for most users is nowhere near $9.00 in MB charges. You'd probably pay $1.99-3.98 ...
