Lets take a look at your account what's your phone number?

"I don't know I NEVER CALL MYSELF"

..this statement is officially a pet peeve of mine now. I hear it 5 times a day and I am yet to understand the logic behind it.. So are you saying people who do know their numbers call themselves?!

When friends, family, business contacts, and others ask them for their number, do they simply reply that they don't know their number because they don't call themselves?

Especially for people in business, this would seem like a completely idiotic response at any time.

Agreed. I hear and see it all the time.
People need to write their number on the phone or save themselves as a contact because they can't remember a 10-digit number (more than likely a 7-digit since the area code usually stays the same).

Lol. My husband has his number duct-taped to his phone. This thread is hilarious because so many people just don't care if they have a cell phone and don't know the #.

I had a gut who called his own voicemail to get his cellphone number (he had someone call him and give him a message with it listed).

Yeah, special.

Are you serious? THAT is your pet peeve? Consumers who do not use their phones for business NEVER know their phone numbers. I've been in this business for ten years. I expect anyone over forty to tell me that they don't know their number.

The majority of customers I've dealt with in seven years know their number just fine.

In fact, I'd expect anyone over 60 to not only have their own number memorized, but every family member's number as well as the numbers of their closest friends. They come from an era where people relied on address books and memory.

I think my generalization makes more sense.

"My phone is cut off. I paid my bill. When are they gonna cut it back on?"

My question is, how do you "cut" something back on? Can I get my hair cut back on?

Maybe these are more annoying than funny, but it makes me chuckle and say things to my co-workers when I hear them

"When you gonna guy Alltel?" about five times a week.

"Which way is (insert mall store here)?" since I work in a kiosk and apparently "Verison Wireless Premium Retailer" = "Mall Information and Directions."

"Verizon has no cool phones! Otherwise I'd swtich from AT&T." The reason I drink...

Cust: I want you to take this camera charge off my bill, I never authorized that and it's illegal for you to do it.

Rep: Ma'am there is no charge for a camera and it is not illegal.

Cust: Then what is the 250 MSG CAMERA charge for $5 on my bill.

Rep: Ma'am that is the $5 text package you signed up for in 2006. You have that on all 3 of your lines. It just means picture aka pix/flix messages are included.

Cust: Oh, well, you can leave it on there I guess. *click*

I personally love angry customers who just throw out silly demands.

I recently had a due who was looking to assume liability of two of his wife's lines. He then wanted to renew service (without being eligable for an upgrade) and get a Pearl and a Decoy.
I told him that the phones would be retail price and he'd be spending close to $600. He told me, "I talked to Craig, your regional manager and he said I could do it." (Craig is a manager at a different indirect location)
He then said that he'd just cancel and switch to T-Mobile, "You just lost two customers and my business."

Sorry, sir, I cannot authorize selling you a Pearl at $70 in the middle of your contract. Feel free to pay ETF to go to T-Mobile, a network that isn't even off...

When I was in E services they would call in and I would ask are you at Verizon Wireless dot com.... No... How do I get there... Go to your address bar... What's that???
Then when they find the address bar and you tell them to put in www.vzw.com they still mess something up!!!!!

When you do not know what your address bar is online then you do not need to be online... Take a course in computers at your local college...

I had a really old woman call and say she wanted to disconnect because her phone has never worked. The woman has had the phone for almost a year. I asked her if she was ok with me trying to figure out whats wrong. So she says every time she goes to use it she never gets a dial tone... Dial Tone???? Cell phones dont have a dial tone... Lol I thought that was funny that she would go that long without attempting to get help & paying a bill every month.

One time back in my call center days in a land far far away...well at least on the south side...

I got a call from a sweet little old lady who just wanted to ask some questions about her phone and how to do a few things on it...

She was just so nice, constantly using terms of endearment, complimenting me on my demeanor and ability to help...

Then from out of nowhere she let's out this blood curdling shreek!

I said "ma'am are you ok?"

...silence

I repeated "ma'am are you with me, do I need to call for help?"

She finally get's back to me and says "no hunny I'm alright...sorry to scare you but I just didn't want you to hear the plop"

I about died!

I dont remember the CellPhone Customer Service Specialist/Cellphone Customer privlige anywhere on the law books. If customers want to make dumb/goofy comments or questions and we want to comment about it I dont think anybody sees the harm in it.

So make it your life's purpose to get everyone to stop talking about anyone ever. If everyone else stops talking about other people, I'm sure we will too.

Maybe.

if we were divulging information such as names, cities, numbers etc...that might be a little different when talking about people in terms of confidentiality.

Is there really that much harm in a bunch of cell phone guru's who have or have had this business in common to vent, and share funny stories they know the other(s) would appreciate?

Seeing that no names, numbers or any private information is being given out I don't think your accusation holds much water.

Man, I remember when I worked at Alltel, there was an Okie analog phone that had a dial tone. Of course, the Samsung Jitterbug has a dial tone as well. I think carriers need to address these customers who are "older" and market to them more seriously. Not every seventy year old customer is walking around with a Blackberry (though many are) for those who we want to save, I say yeah. Bring back the $20 50 minute 'emergency' plan.
