NO, but you should have them both turned off. You can do the ESN change yourself if you have your account set up on-line. But you must be switching similar phones, what I mean is camera phone to camera phone. If your switching from a non-camera phone to a new camera phone it may not work on the website. Just one of those glitches.

It is helpful to have both phones present with you or at least a means of contacting the other person who has the other phone. Dont call however on the phone that you are doing the ESN change with. You can also call into customer service, again not on one of the phones you are doing an ESN change with.

The reason is that if one of the phones isnt accesssible and the OTA programming doesnt work someone will have to call into customer service and try to help you. If you have both phones accessible then if soemthing goes wrong you can address it right there and not have to call back.

well.. the reason i ask is because I've lost my phone. my wife however is up for her NE2 and she doesn't feel she needs to upgrade her phone. i was wondering if i could get a phone on her line, then do an ESN change with my number, even though my phone isn't present...?

OR could i ESN change her phone (razr) with my lost phone, then upgrade the lost phone using that line's NE2, and finally do a final ESN change to get both phones back to their normal lines?

It's called a alternate upgrade or something like that. You can upgrade your line using her NE2. Just stop by a VZW store and they can set it up for you.
