Are you kidding me?? VZW has announced the phones set for release this year and these are not included.
If Sprints newtork didn't suck I would switch immediately.
That is the ONLY reason why I am still with VZW ... it sure isn't their selection of somewhat 2 year behind phone technology.
😲
...
No matter what verizon does, people will complain 🙄
Get over it. No company has it all. If verizon's focus is their network, then their phones might lag a little bit. If you want the "cool" phone with an inferior network, then port out.
I really don't even think the touch is going to be that great. And the Centro is just a barely updated treo--nothing really new there.
...
you got to admit their pda/bb line up sucks!! ATT has just released their second Curve with GPS in a new cool color, while verizon lameness is just now releasing the Pearl a year later with gps crippled forcing you to pay more!! 👿
...
you have to pay more for gps on the pearl? I thought it was included with your $30 per month data charge.
...
im reading the hofo thread and it has been confirmed that GPS is crippled just like the 8330 👿
...
why do they keep doing that? I really don't get it.
Looks like i will be getting the voyager and not the pearl.

Sigh, good ol' VZW... still with the gratuitous feature crippling, woohoo. Cut. Print. Gay. 😢
...
I just dont understand why they take out a feature that can be very helpful for the business minded crowd. As an outside sales rep the gps functions would be great to have on the verizon PDA's and I would be willing to pay for it. They are really missing the boat on this one and hopefully someone changes this practice soon.
Smartphones should never be crippled like this. You're telling some 15 yr old who has an env can get gps directions to their next kegger....and I buy a $300 smartphone to use and I cant get directions to one of my sales calls? F'n ridiculous.

Hehe. Here's a list of reasons why Verizon doesn't care about their phone selection.
1. They don't care..
2. They don't care...
3. They're everywhere...
4. They were never good at picking phones...
5. Verizon exec's are not into fashionable statements. Like the touch. Centrino.
6. Sprint is doing more consumer stuff now so that's why they got the touch and centrino.
7....And finally...They don't care..
...
blah, blah, blah...thats why they are releasing close to 15 phones this quarter...cause "they don't care".
By the end of the year verizon's lineup will be just as good, and probably better than sprints.
verizon's phone selection is about priorities. I just don't think having the "coolest" phones was high on their to do list. But with the new next phones, maybe they are changing their tune.

The Pearl will have built-in GPS via Vz navigator, as most verizon phones now have. The blackberries for ATT, that have built-in gps, namely the 8800, 8820, and new Curve 8310, they have gps through telenav. You can choose other gps apps, but it will still cost something outside of your data plan. And I'm talking about GPS Navigation, not maps.
...
but verizon nav is not GPS, and it will cost extra on top of the 30 dollar data plan, right? att telenave is free.
...
bkw79Oct 17, 2007, 5:37 PM
verizon navigator is called "assisted gps", it uses both gps and cell tower triagulation. ATT telenav is not free. It costs the same as Vz Navigator. I have att telenav on my Blackberry Curve, and I have VZ Navigator on my LG VX9400.
...
Oh sweet good to know thanks, there sure is a lot of mis information around here..
...
bkw79Oct 17, 2007, 6:38 PM
No problem.
...
By the way how much is telenav on ATT? you get unlimited nav with your 15 dollar vcast i take it, but what you just want the app for ATT, what is that price? The info is appreciated!
...
bkw79Oct 17, 2007, 6:53 PM
Vz Navigator is 9.99 for Verizon, and it is 9.99 for telenav for att. VZ Nav comes with the Premium calling plan, or $9.99/month, it doesn't come with Vcast or any other plan.
...
cool cool good to know thanks, well that should make everyone very happy regarding the Pearl then, it looks like the Pearl will be the first Black Berry with verizon Nav, Nice!

LOL, you sure this time? VZW's the best network, yeah, but they still do stoopid stuff like crippling the GPS on that Pearl 2 you're waitin' for. And while the phone selection is definitely gettin' better, it may not ever be quite as good as the other nationals.
I'm just waitin' for you to port to T-Mobile, that's all. 🙂
So, just how bad was your indoors coverage with Sprint? And did their awful CS live up...
(continues)
...
I never had a reason to call customer care, the call clarity was the major issue, it was just average at best...and after a handful of searching for service indoors I went back to verizon. The Pearl will be nice, still rather have the Curve, maybe in 09 🤣
...
The Curve is supposed to show up on VZW Q1 2008. Also incoming are the $29.99 Blackberry data plans, I think coinciding with the Pearl 2 release next month. Welcome back.
...
Have you read the latest on Sprint lately, by the way? They're losing customers in droves. Verizon (among others) is gaining. So that's how far that "cool" phone is gonna get ya.

im reading the same thread, show me where it says they crippled gps? thanks
link please

quite griping, and port. if you've ported, go cuddle with your other carrier until they piss you off, then complain about them, and port. repeat. 🙄
...
noone is porting jerk off just telling like it is
...
And do you own all of these phones? Or do you just like to complain?
Pick a carrier, and do what you will. If you're with Sprint because they have "cooler" phones, then don't complain about Verizon's selection.
If you actually pick a better network, like Verizon, there are many phones to choose from, that do the same things as the one you mentioned.
I think you just like to complain.
...
Sprint is behind on high end consumer based products. So you win some you lose some.
P.S. This is coming from a Sprint Rep.
...
Centrino vs LG voyager ill take the voyager sorry Sprint cingular and tmobile, this is the end all of phones...Verizon is MAD!!
...
I agree with you. too bad i work for sprint. lol.
...
Sorry, this has been bugging me all day. It's the palm centro, not the centrino
...
look at the news updates from today 🙂
