Reception on the Samsung U540?

SystemShock

Hey all, I'm goin' to go get my upgrade, either today or tomorrow. Looks like it'll prolly be the Sam 540 (w/the extended battery).

Anyone have any reception tales to tell on this phone? I've had Samsungs in the past, they're haven't quite as good as (Nokia-built) Nokias or Motos in reception in my experience, but still pretty good.

Anyone know about the reception on the Sam 540 specifically? I do worry a lil' bit 'cuz its internal antennae, though I think a pull-up one only really helps with the 850 MHz band (which usually doesn't need it- goes through walls good, etc.)

I don't have any personal experience with the 540, but agree with your mild concerns about reception maybe suffering. The last Samsung I tried did not work as well as my 8300, or moto 325i. But if you're doing a NE2 than you just test her out, if it doesn't meet your needs switch up.

Hmm... that sucks. I'm going to head over to HoFo and see what they say about U540 reception. Hopefully its better than U740.

I had Samsung a950 a couple years ago but only kept a week cause reception was so bad. On the flip side, got a U740 on June 23 and love it. It has reception as good as any internal antenna phone on verizon. Don't know much about U540.

There is not a single internal antenna phone Verizon offers that have as good of reception as the two phones you mention. Internal atennae phones I've had include RAZR, KRZR, Chocolate, VX-8700 and Sammy U-740. The Sammy may have the best reception of the bunch.

My cousin has that phone and he says it has better reception than his two previous phones (LG 8600 and Razr).

Had the phone for 1 week so I can sum it up...

-Lost reception where other phones I've used in the same spot held onto service (ie RAZR, KRZR, MAXX Ve, 8300, 8600, 9900, 6315i)
-Battery is absolutely ridiculous (goes from 2 bars right to flashing low battery with little to no usage)
-Verizon Flash UI is nice (3 themes to choose from)
-Small
-Wide but flat keypad; lit up a nice bright white
-Texts can be read on external display when auto read is set to on for text messages
-Memory card is under battery cover
-Both internal/external screens could be much crisper
-Ringtones can be easily emailed via pix messaging

Like I said, the phone was decent but I returned it mainly for the horrendous battery.

As far as reception, you can't really rely on what other people say. As you can see, some people have good reception, others don't. Reception is a compilation of the network, the phone, and your location. I would suggest trying the phone out and seeing for your self...
