verizon?

why does verizon fell like they have to put a horrible interface on every phone without even giving the consumer a choice? and why do they feel they have to take all the good features out of a phone?

i mean the interface is so bad people have learned how to hack it off the phones!!!

They have a standard UI so people will have something to complain about on phonescoop.

verizon put the ui on all their phones because they are so full of themselves they have a narcissitic fascination w/ their logo and color which is,,,, red and just love seeing it on all their phones, if they had their way, all the phones would be red w/ an ugly big red checkmark on the back and in big letters verizon,

but in reality, its to get pple to associate a phone w/ verizon as opposed to a samsung phone or a motorola phone, i dont believe that they did it so that consumers can have a easy os to work w/ regardless of manufacter, major companies never do nothing "nice" for their consumers, its always money in mind. the os is just another way to make a higher profit off the phone and increase ARPU

The UI isn't red bars any more though. It just means that everything in the menu is in the same place on all the phones. Compare the menu on the Samsung u740 to the menu on the menu on the LG VX8600 to the menu on the LG VX8700 to the menu on the Motorola RAZR V3m. They're all completely different.

I think you may have missed th point of the standard locations UI grasshopper, the idea is that the company can spend substantially less sums of money on customer service calls, store visits and cut down on customer loss from frustration with the handsets. To the average phonesoop user, the menu's aren't complex. To my mother, mother in law, wife, brother in law, sister, neighbor (all vz users, mind you) have asked me 'how do I...?' just cuz I'm nore 'technical' and all they were trying to do was simple navigation to a feature a good few years ago. Do they stop asking, not completely but with evey new phone they've gotten...less questions...

Not trying to be a smart a** but most(key word "most") customers really dont care about VZW user interface. Most dont even know what it means.

And the ones that do find out what it is usually love it. Seriously, every time I've told a customer that all of Verizon's phones have the same functions in the same place on the menu, 100% of them think it's a great idea.

I'm sure that's true but Joe average is not your regular PS visitor. The ones that really suffer on those who are tech savvy and don't want cripple jacked over software! Verizon is the best carrier, if not I would be with At&T.

Yeah, I agree with pretty much everything you just said. I haven't had the opportunity to play with AT&T phones because there is no AT&T store or service in my area. Honestly though, I could care less about the crippled bluetooth. I wouldn't use the file transfer capabilities anyway.

It still boils down to network reliability/ voice quality and verizon is still the king. Just look at their churn and history with getting the network back up in emergency situations, it's awesome!!!

But what happens when another carrier catches up and offers as solid of network, but without the jacked over UI, restricted bluetooth, no streaming data, etc?

By that time VZW will be able to boast the greatest mobile community. Heck, they already have the most postpaid customers.

If you have 50 million customers and 10,000 wont buy because of the user interface and/or disable features...and you have 49,990,000 that love it the way it is...what would you do?

Right I hear you and agree! But what about this scenario- what happens when that killer must have data app that everybody will want hits and verizon is still charging 45 bucks for data, which is allot greater than most carriers. Do you think there will be a problem then? And what if that app involves streaming, then what? If you listen to that nextel18 guy he says verizon has capped date cuz they don't have enough spectrum to allow full streaming...is that true?

If it becomes a real threat, Verizon can offer it cheaper. Take away the incentive for people to go elsewhere.

omg i never heard of such blind consumer loyalty to a corporation with the only intent on their mind to make money as opposed to satisfy customers, are vzw consumers that loyal to verizon compared to at&t, tmobile or other compaines?

I don't think it's loyalty so much as they just don't care that much. I still get a lot of customers that say: "I don't need a camera or any of that garbage on my phone. I just need to make phone calls." There are techies out there that would be really disappointed with what Verizon does, and I can't blame them. The fact of the matter is that the majority of consumers couldn't care less about that stuff.

i understand that but it seems that some vzw consumers (sry if im stereotyping) praise vzw so much to the point of fanboyism, even if they are not a fanboy, they have the most upmost respect for verizon and will verbally defend verizon if anything is said negatively about them or if someone criticizes verizon,

and i, who is a feature, and personalization freak when it comes to cell phones would not like vzw as a company because i would have limited customization abilities on my phone, but i will concede that vzw does a great job of maintaining their network, despite the fact that im an at&t customer and aligned towards gsm.

Usually it comes from having been on other networks, and not being happy on them. 😢

Take me, for example. I was on Sprint's network, and it was 'okay', at best. Weird little coverage holes that would drop the call if I drove through 'em, and mediocre to bad indoors reception.

Then I try Verizon. Never drop a call unless I'm driving through a tunnel (or the other person is)....

now i understand a bit, and yes sprint will make you want to run far far far away to another company and it IS WORTH PAYING THE ETF to move from Sprint, they are absolute garbage and reception with them is horrendous and cust. support and pretty much everything else.

the uniformity of the vzw UI has many pro's such as knowing how to use every vzw phone but also it takes away from choice, as far as manufacturer's OS, im glad i have to choice to chose samsung for their OS than motorola(btw i love samsungs), vzw has been proven reliable but nothing is foolproof.

and when it comes to phones, i take battery life and reception very serious but i just want the freedom to use my phone anyway i like and thats why i couldnt be w/ vzw, vzw isn...

to me, vzw stands on its own when it comes to call quality and network.

at this point, i've tried them all and vzw has the best network/call quality/dropped calls/coverage. I've tried to get away from them everytime my contract is up but i always end up coming back because of those 3 thing i mentioned above. believe me i don't like paying more if i dont have to but...
