Q REPLACEMENT PROBLEM Help Please

rtx

I just received a refurbished phone from the insurance co VZN uses. All is well except the battery life. I decided to just swap out with my original battery before sending back the phone ... but same problem I am getting about 60% usage before recharging is needed ... based on what I was able to do before with one charge. I have the Q.

Can the phone itself cause the excess battery drainage? If so any ideas on a setting I might be missing or should I just return it?

Call them baack and make them give you a better Q! Or visit VZW themselves.

hey chocolate man the only problem is that verizon wont be able to replace the phone for him, because when the insurence sends you a manufactor's replacement it has a 1 year warranty with the insurence company, but what he can also do is call the insurence company and have them send him a BRAND NEW motorola q that would hold a 30 day warranty with the insurence and the rest of the warranty either with verizon or motorola themselves

This is interesting I didn't know I had this option. But if I understand you correctly I won't be able to continue with the VZN insurance program?

depends on the amount of storage space you have in your phone, if you have no memory left in the phone yes it can draine the battery quicker because the battery is working double time to keep the phone powered on, so i would reccomend buying a memory card and storing all your info on it, and an extended battery never hurts, they run about $49.99 right now, and if your a vip customer you get 25% off....plus check your service on your phone from time to time if you see that your not getting good service at cerain times of the day then turn off your phone, because the battery is working harder at trying to compensate for not having a signal...you should do the *228 option 2 once a month to update your perfered roaming capability and the *228 op...

.. how is updating his PRL going to help in any way with battery life? Are you assuming he is roaming?

He didnt mention it, but maybe he is in extended network, and maybe there has been a change to the roaming agreement in the area that has changed the priority or added a carrier that would allow him to connect to a tower that provides a better signal... but I highly doubt it.

This reply is assuming that this is a problem that didnt start until you got the replacement phone..

To answer your question, yes, the phone can cause excess draining. If the phone is malfunctioning it can drain the battery much faster than it should be.
Call Asurion and tell them that there is a problem with the phone, and explain what is happening and they will send you another replacement.

One thing to check for though, depending on how often you power off your phone, you may just need to shut down extra programs you have running by going into system tools, task manager, select menu and select "kill all" this will close all the apps you have running. The Q doesnt close apps on its own, so it is still running everything you have eve...

Yep it is not roaming issues nor too much going on. I have nothing loaded on the Q other than contacts. I am not just getting 4 to 5 hours usage ... and this is the exact same usage prior to the replacement phone. Nothing that I am aware of has changed. My brother also has a Q and I used his battery tonight, same problem about 5 hours and he hasn't had any major battery issues prior with his phone.

So I think you're correct it is the phone. I am going to call them tomorrow to get a different replacement.

Thanks all for your help and ideas.
