Yesterday, I bought an ampd mobile motorola e816 which is like the e815 from circuit city. It is on sale for $30 after a $100 rebate. I called verizon and told them I wanted to activate an old phone and told them it was an e815. They activated it with no problem and instead of the *228, they manually programmed it and now it is working and I can text/pix message, make/recieve calls. I cant use get it now or mobile web, but I dont care about that.
...
Verizon is going to know now and bust you!!!!! ๐ฒ ๐ ๐
...
๐ You are goign to run into problems with the phone and re not going to be able to get any assistance with it. I work CS Tech and if you unit goes out of service you are going to need to do the *228 any tech worth their salt is going to check that esn in the data base and see that it is not our unit and then you will have to get some sort of vzw phone. ๐ฒ Whoever activated it will get into trouble ๐คญ
...
Ummm...
If the esn was able to be activated, then it means that it is in the database...
A tech won't be able to do anything because there is no warranty on the phone...
...
it's because amp'd mobile uses vzw network so there phones will probably use the same technology as vzw phones do...but yeah if you have problems with the phone your on your own so don't throw a fit when your sol.

What did you accomplish? You're expecting a rebate for activating an Amp'd phone on the VZ network?
...
I believe his excitement derives from having a non branded phone activated ๐ณ
...
You activated a Verizon phone on a Verizon Network. It's no secret Amp'd is Verizon for Xtreme Youth Market. Moto Q, RAZR, E815... If you activated a Sanyo or something... that would be different
...
We actually have a bunch of phones from different carriers loaded in our DMD. The hollywood is listed as the E816. We also have a bunch of altell prepaid handsets in there too.
But thats ok The OP can have fun thinking he beat the system some how. While i bet the rep on the phone was trying to figure out why this guy was so giddy like a school girl.
...
thats awesome...if i didnt have an EnV i would buy one. just hate dealing with rebates.
...
just 1 question...why didnt u just buy it from ampd.com?
They give the E816 away for free w/ rebates...all you have to do is pay $20 for the cheapest prepaid card...so it would be $120 opposed to $130, no?
...
Well, both Amp'd and the Alltel prepaid (which vzw took over) have to be activated in the Switch, so it's no wonder they would be in the DMD. I bet there is even some TracFone CDMA esn's in there and eventually Helio...

The only thing that sucks is not being able to get that charge port worked on when (and it will) it goes...

Motorola has a year Manufacturer warranty so that's not really a problem.

Since you are an acknowledged expert in the industry, tell me how on God's green earh was a Cingular handset (GSM) activated on the Verizon (CDMA) network?
...
That's what I'm wondering.

Choco...I can't hold my breath much longer...

Please explain to everyone how you got a GSM phone to work on a CDMA network. Please prove me wrong, other wise I'm calling BS. ๐คจ

Yean, get in line with the rest of us waiting for the revelation!
If we're quiet enough, ABLINDKID will pop in and reveal his technology morphing secret!
Hey...we'll be able to use the iPhone on VZW with ABLINDKID's knowledge...

LMFAO! ๐คฃ
...
Now, you might get the system to accept the ESN, but there's no way that the phone worked enough to do a test call. Absolutely no way.

Gah. My mistake. I missed a message in the chain. ๐
Only thing I can think of for this one is that maybe he was referring to some kind of pre-GSM technology, but even that sounds...
Well. you already said it.

You've destroyed every little bit of credibility you've ever had.

listen i dont know how that guy got a cingular phone on a verizon account, and here is what happened when he brought it into our store to get a software flash, i told him we couldnt do it, so he wanted to speak with our store manager, which he did, the store manager in turn called national customer service, which said the phone was not supposed to be on the network, so they deactivated the guys phone, and gave him a free verizon razr, and they said the person that activated it is probably going to be fired

We believe you. ๐ ๐คฃ

above statement = lie.
No possible way it could have been done in the current universe as we know it to be.
If by some grace of god some really really smart higher up put this in play - the customer would not have been able to use the damn phone.
CRAP.

do you know what model of analog phone it was. since tdma and gsm phones are not compatable with cdma, even with vzw software put on them.

Ahhh, your story, like your technology is morphing...
So what you said earlier is not really what you said...
Should I return my iPhone now?
...
Perhaps the customer had a Verizon phone that they wrote "Cingular" on with a big marker, and BlindKid just thought it was a Cingular phone?

it was a cingular razr phone, that was the phone who ever activated it on his account said that verizon could flash new software into his phone so he could get vcast, it was the craziest thing every, my store manager at the time spent 2 hours with the guy calling the national customer service trying to find out why and how this was done, we could pull up his account on netace (software we use) and he could make and recive calls on the verizon network, so my recommendation lapdog, is call the 800 national customer service, because lately it seems like they will activate anything for customer, hence the kid the the e815 amp'd mobile phone thats now on the verizon network...other wise then that keep close tabs on the court case about unlocked p...

PLEASE NEVER REFER TO ME AGAIN IN ANY OF YOUR POSTS!
I am a Verizon Wireless employee. I pride myself on the quality of service we as a company offer, as well as I expect from those companies we have as partners. You make me embarassed as a VZW employee if you are a Solectron employee at a VZW store.
As a tech, why, as others have asked, would you have to call the 800 # for help...especially to add a Cingular (TDMA or GSM) phone in service on a CDMA network. I would hope your company reads your posts, find out who you are (raycarroll70-can you help me out here) and offers to outsource you. The information you give is CONSISTANTLY in error and not factual. You are doing a dis-service to phone scoop readers.
