Amen, I am an agent, so my boss (me) treats me great! I don't know what they do for corporate employees, but I never hear of anyone complaining for long. They either love their job or go work for another company. But then again, that's pretty industry standard. If you don't like company "A" but love working in the cell phone industry, then move to company "B" and find your place.

It sounds like they had a problem with you. I worked for the call center in Tulsa, and although I moved on after 4 years, I still loved working for them. Where else are you rewarded for your work, ( Bonuses, 150.00 subsidy towards a new phone every 2 years, Pay your cell phone bill, unlimited minutes and you don't pay for text or pic messaging or Easy Edge) They throw you a party every year ( Kickoff meeting) It just sounds to me like you had a problem with either the people or the job was not a fit for you. USC is still one of the best places to work for. I helped launch St Louis, Portland Maine, OKC, and saw the demise of Medford Oregon, the selling of Idaho and gaining more of Kansas and Missouri. Amen to that. I still work for USC in the call center in Iowa. I would agre not a match for the company...but then again, I cannot tell you how many former assoicates I have talked to that were let go because of ethical reasons. If that is the case in this one bluetooth...well, sorry you are not with the company because perhaps you weren't being ethical. however, this company prides itself on ethics, values and respect.

I worked for USC for over three years. It was the best job I have ever had. The benefits were awesome, the perks ruled, and the people were great, for the most part. The ONLY reason that I'm not with USC anymore is because I moved where they, sadly, have no presence. If they ever do come out here, I'll be the first in line to take advantage of employment with them, barring the company I work for now taking good care of me...which they have. USC takes good care of their emloyees, and bluetooth, it just must have been you man. Sorry about that, but not every employer is for every employee.

I suppose you can't please everyone.
I have had a COMPLETELY different experience with USC. I started in retail 5 years ago and I have watched this company grow and change by leaps and bounds, all in a very positive way. Upper management has been filtered to the point that if you did not care about the associates, it was time to move on. Customers are our main priority with the associates sharing the spotlight. Please don't misunderstand, I am not upper management, I am only a support person - but I feel like when I need to call my Regional VP, I can - I have his direct number in my phone because he gave it to us with the instructions to use it at any time. How may other companies do that? We have a yearly Culture Survey that is anonymous ...

I thought I would, yet, change the name of this thread one more time because as a former (nearly 5 year) employee of USCC, I had what started out as a positive work environment, then it turned into the most hostile, hateful work environment that I have ever been in -- one that I would not recommend to anyone, customer nor employee.

When I first started with the company it was all about taking care of the customer and doing what was right. The open door policy really did exist and (most) associates, coaches and management behaved ethically -- however, throughout my tenure -- something changed -- drastically -- the tides changed, and it became all about "the numbers" -- and everyone started covering their own asses and the lying and deceit...

Do you work for corporate or an agent? My experience working for a U.S. Cellular agent has been awesome. I used to work at a call center. Something that is completely different than working as an RWC or in an agent location.

Please don't misinterpret what I said. I did not take the job for granted. I was grateful for the pay and benefits, I loved working for the customers and greatly enjoyed what I did -- that was the upside of things.

But, the downside of things, was what a lot of you -- who work in the stores, agents and retail locations aren't aware of, because the call centers are a completely different environment than what you are used to dealing with. As associates in the call center, you are on the phone for 8 hours, in queue all the time except for breaks and lunch, call after call after call, and many were not treated very ...

All call center work is rough on your soul! I've worked in two different call centers, in unrelated industries. Both of them seemed to suck the life and heart out of me. I was very good at my job as well, and it wasn't difficult -- and it wasn't the job that was tearing me up, it was some of the people in the company, the politics and some of the people that were so brainwashed by all the garbage that was spewing that it became so disgusting that I just could no longer bear to be there any longer.

Between the deceit and the flat out lies... and the hypocrisy... no way... I just couldn't do it, I won't. The open door policy had been closed a long time ago, my latest coach was a complete moron, the manager wasn't any better, and I know better than to go to HR, because they are only there to support the management. So... rather than waste my time with that bullcrap... I found a better job. Pretty simple...

Slaves comments about the call center is interesting. I have worked for call centers before, in the computer industry. My experience was much like the one slave describes. A very stressfullfull place all about call times and numbers, not at all about the customers or the reps.
I am not familiar with the internal workings of our call centers, however, will say, that 80 percent of the time when I have to call into the call center, the reps I speak with a rarely very pleasant............

Awesome employees that have been with the company forever are being eliminated for no reason other than she wants anyone who knows more than she does gone. Also wants to turn USCC into dish network.

The tragedy is HR and upper management is allowing her to destroy the market. You are so right that the open door policy is a joke.

What else is sad is the fear is so great, people are afraid to speak at straight talks and will not be honest on the cultural survey.

I absolutely agree with this -- which is why I voluntarily resigned as soon as I was able to get a much better job.

USCC used to care about their employees, but that is a thing of the past. If you are thinking about a career with USCC -- RUN AWAY.

We used to hear from Jack Rooney, and Brenda Weyl (who left a while back and was replaced by.... Shelly something or other) that the associates were the most important part of the company and we followed the covenants of the D.O. and received the same treatment. In addition, if we had a problem, the open door policy really did exist.

yea and its suppose to be that the coachs are suppose to be there for you, can you ever find them??? NO. Another example, there is a coach that still works there. When he got the position, he stood in the middle of the isle and announced to us that 'I just told them what they wanted to hear' to get the coach position. He still doesn't know what he is doing. As far as consistency within the coachs, yea right. You can ask a question to one coach, and then ask the same question to another coach and get 2 different answers. And then they will tell you to your face that we are consistent. WHATEVER. More later.

I have never heard bad things about the company as a whole, but I have heard the things you guys are talking about over and over at my two call center jobs. I worked in both training depts and management. All anyone cares about is getting the time off they want, and looking good on paper. I am an agent, I'm happy with both the service, and the treatment I get from the corporate peoples. We have had aae's and managers move from corporate to working for agents, and they say they make more money, but sometimes it's not all about the money. I don't know what phones you are talking about, besides the kyocera's and customers are starting to wise up about them. We don't sell near as many of them as we used to. The rest of them either have their purpose or they are on par with what everyone else carries. I wish we had a smartphone, but that isn't where the market is taking us at this time. However, please understand that the things that we are talking about are 100% completely different and sometimes unrelated to experiences that you may have or are having.

More than likely as an agent, you aren't being heavily micromanaged -- first by your own know-it all co-workers, then help desk, then a coach, then managers -- weekly QA sessions, missing minutes, compliance, adherence, not ready time, logging into and out of your phone on time (God forbid), coaching sessions, policies changed on you on a weekly or sometimes daily basis -- or even more oft...

I would like to hear from corporate associates that filled out the cultural survey. I didn't fill mine out this year because all my coworkers received surveys with numbers printed in the corner and the numbers were all different. If they say everything is anonymous, why have numbers printed on the survey in the first place??

The surveys are a JOKE anyway, I've filled them out for several years and nothing ever happens, except for people being fired for filling them out. The surveys ARE NOT anonymous, by any means. They know who fills out what and by whom, which is why they have numbers on them, and they have your coach and manager name on them. AND yes, they pretty much are a joke. Just more paperwork to try to make the associates feel like they are worth something -- but it sometimes backfires, because I've seen it happen in 2 call centers -- 1 in particular, which was later dubbed "Black Monday" -- when the call center director, at least 4 managers and 2 coaches were walked out without no previous knowledge that it was happening. And it was shortly after the 'alleged' cultural survey results -- so don't let the 'anonymity' fool you -- they know EXACTLY who fills every piece of paper out, and if you wan...

However, in the center that I worked in, it was not that way -- it was when I first started, but changed dramatically and became very, very negative and a complete hostile work environment, I'm sorry to say.

It's a numbers game, verizon is no different. you got in trouble for going to the bathroom when you were not on break, you got in trouble for being a min late, if you were on a call for more than 15 mins it was monitored to make sure you werent messing around, and even if it wasnt your fault you still got introuble. you were sick and in the hospital that day? here's a write up, even if you let them know and brought in your doctors note/ receipt. so im sorry to burst the bubbles of the anti corprate people, but thats the natur...

What the hell is a cultural survey? It just sounds illegal.

Its a survey that USC Corporate takes of their employees. It has nothing to do with "culture" as we know it but it really a satisfaction survey internally for USC Corporate employees.

I'm just an agent but I have talked to the Regional VP's in meetings and they seem to get a LOT of good information.

Just to explain the D.O. further from the standpoint of a former manager at USCC...

The D.O. is a popularity contest. If you are not a leader that is willing to compromise your ethics, then this is not the place for you. As a leader at USCC, your #1 goal, as it was pointed out to me, was to achieve a high mark on the Cultural Survey. So, you cannot effectively lead. You must befriend associates instead of leading them. Look the other way and don't upset your associates, or it will come back to haunt you in the fall when the survey results come back. Basically, your associates end up having the ability to "choose" their leaders. If you do not compromise your principles, then you're finished.

Have you ever been asked to step outside you...

for responding to this troll but i have to...
The ethics you are talking about are the same ethics your precious verizon wireless uses, how do i know you ask? because i was in customer care for them, any market that had marginal coverage it was the same story, "oh there is a tower coming soon." even though there really wasnt. its the industry, get used to it, if you truely worked in the industry for over 6 years i would think you would have figured it out by now. and by the way VERIZONS SERVICE SUCKS! again from personal experiance verizon has horrible service, dropped calls, a lot higher than they claim. reliable? not at all. but of course this will be argued im sure so flame on.

Troll? Wow, not nice. I wasn't going to sling mud, but...

Anyway, ignoramous, I didn't say that I worked for Verizon, which I do not. I said that I used their service, and it far exceeded that of U.S. Cellular. Get your facts straight before spewing your nonsense.

Second, yes, I did work for USCC for 6 years. And, it's nice for you to confirm that USCC operates unethically. I experienced that firsthand. I'm not sure about Verizon... apparently, you have that experience... good for you. However, from my experience, Verizon's service far exceeds that of USCC. Get used to what? I don't have to, I'm (thankfully) not in the telecommunications industry anymore, and will never be again due to my experience with USCC.

1) Thanks for showing ...

Okay, so it may be a little more clear why you don't work for US Cellular anymore.

Now, look, there are some things in your thread which I could perhaps see as somewhat true, but these are things that I have come to expect working for larger companies with a set of goals. Working at the retail level...you're drone bees, you're job is to make it or break it.

I am going to be heading to grad school after I finish my undergrad, and I can't lie that US Cellular is amazing for college students, especially with the Associate Scholar Program, Associate Phone Program, and a fun work environment. Do I plan on working for USC when I am done with school? Perhaps. But this is by far the best job to get a chance to succeed, apparently you ju...

Well i, too, have had an issue with working for USCC. i did not work in call center, i worked in retail store. basically, had some issues with another employee. nothing physical or verbal, pretty much an outside personal dispute that was supposed to have not been brought into the workplace. well, apparently she was complaining to my bosses, telling them i was sending her inappropriate texts, which in fact was not true. actually she had sent ME messages using profanity, etc. anyways, we supposedly had been able to work professionally. i guess not. my manager and his manager sat me down and said they had met with her earlier. they pretty much forced me into a corner. their words were perfectly prepared..."you just can't work together in the sa...

i think everyone is entitled to their own opinions, whether they be negative or positive, and there shouldn't be restrictions on who can say what. however, there's a line between opinions and ignorant trashtalking. i'm sure we are all responsible and mature around here, and can respect one another without stepping on each others' toes? i sure hope so. hope everyone is having a good day.

Every one is entitled to their own opinion, and entitled to the responsibility bearing up under any reactions. If you didn't want a reaction, or can't handle others reactions, positive or any other, you shouldn't say anything. The right to free speach is not same as no responsibility for what you say.

you all should have started a new post that said was titled "Jackass Post Opinions here" You are all losers who were forced to resign because (like that title says) its all about the numbers and you obviously couldn't hit them. uscc is in the busniess to make money. how do you think you got paid for six years? they are about customer service, you obviously didn't have customer service skills and for the queer in love with verizon, they demand 80 new lines of service from their sales people and they pay like ****!

I am former NINE year employee of the Knoxville call center so I can tell all and after reading some of the comments like 'you get out what you put in' and foolishness like that I had to comment. US Cellular is a terrible company to work for. They say they are different but they are NOT. They say they have an open door policy but that is just talk. It looks great on paper but the reality doesn't match. Like any call center they have a multitude of statistics to keep up with. If you are weak on ANY of them you get put on an 'action plan' which prevents you from bonus, shift trades, new shift opportunities etc. This leads to verbal, then written warnings up until termination. You also have your calls recorded and evalutated. I was not on any w...

Wow dude thats terrible!! I have no faith in Corporate America, the only way to make money is to go out on your own and find something else you love to do and make it your passion! If you love helping people than find a way to make money off of it on your own terms!!! All it takes is a will! I opened a car dealership at the age of 18 and I'm 21 and am on my third now, the first one was the hardest but I get it done and now the rewards are great!!! And no my parents didn't help me at ALL get started and now they work with me!! Just research and anything is possible!
