I have recently heard from a reliable source that Verizon Wireless is trying to make out a deal to buy out U.S. Cellular.. they have been trying to buy out U.S. Cellular for ages but have never came to a deal that USCC actually agreed to..so my question is that have any of you heard of Verizon buying out U.S. Cellular..i really hope this deal goes through because Verizon has just about the biggest network in the country 🙂

rumor. If verizon wanted to they could regardless of if they agree or not. Why would they? Their coverage overlaps too much! Except in one area. If they buy anyone it will be alltel.

TDS Metrocom is buying back the rest of the stock, so USCC would go private, and be a lot harder to buy. But not impossible

Those are the SAME rumors that ALWAYS go around. USCC is GROWING and PROFITING. They are not going to sell anytime soon. Don't believe everything you hear.

While I agree that they won't be bought anytime soon as there is no reason for anyone to do so. Just because they don't want to sell doesn't mean someone can't buy them. It happens all the time!

well i'm leaving U.S. Cellular within the next year for at&t and was just wondering if the rumor of Verizon buying U.S. Cellular to limit competition without a huge price that alltel would draw was true and that maybe i would stay with U.S. Cellular if they were switching to Verizon...i really need on a huge network and not U.S. Cellular's tiny one

US celluar stock is the highest in the industry therefor even though alltel is bigger they would be around the same price! So it would not benifit verizon to buy them. In more ways then one. Alltel is the only one that would benifit them for the price they both would get!

And verizon customers does not want US Cellular's system in Nebraska. Alltel is a lot better in Nebraska, there would be a lot of work for verizon to get the Us Cellular system working like alltels does now.

I was thinking of switching to Us Cellular untill I used their network in Nebraska the last couple of days, yikes.

Hwy 30 between fremont and columbus, low signal to none. Hwy 81 from norfolk to Hwy 20, low signal, Hwy 20 from 81 to Iowa, low signal, to none. All major highways for Nebraska. Maybe they been having problems the last couple of days, but as of now, Us cellular is not on my list anymore, and to think how close I came to signing up.

Verizon used to roam on alltel in nebraska, then they switched to US Cellular...

alltel has the largest network. So it would make sense for them to get them. more customers, more coverage, spectrum, you name it. Dont get me wrong Us Cellular is doign something right as they have the highest stock price and most profitable company.

Verizon doesn't like Sprint as well. Since Alltel made that big roaming agreement for EVDO & 1X with Sprint, that Alltel made Sprint the preferred roaming partner. For markets such as Chicago, Detroit, and even New York; Verizon used to be preferred over Sprint. But now, Alltel made all markets prefer Sprint over Verizon. Verizon didn't like that. So wherever Verizon could, they eliminated their customer's ability to roam in some markets on Alltel, and where they couldn't, they lowered Alltel and moved USCC up in priority. So unless a Verizon user wants to hack the P...

thats BS because in Havelock NC verizon goes to alltel first and US Cell is in that area. Alltel made the deal with sprint because verizon would not share their evdo network. So verizon has no one to blame but themselves. So I don't think they are mad over it as they did it!

Unless you're using an older PRL or hacked the current one, Alltel has in fact been moved down in priority in many markets. North Carolina is one area you mentioned that USCC is preferred over Alltel in overlap areas. SO the PRL will pickup USCC 1st, unless the signal is that weak that it picks up Alltel instead. Up in Wisconsin, where Verizon has native coverage in Appleton, Alltel used to be preferred for in-marke...

dave73, thank you for the useful information. I am beginning to think that USCC was having a major tower issue that night, august 15th.

I can understand what you are saying about having problems from buying the old network. Verizon went thru that after buying qwest in nebraska and minnesota.

I will be going thru there again next week, at least I should be, I will update you on how it goes next week.

I still wish verizon would go back to alltel in nebraska, wait until uscc gets their system going in that area. I have sent verizon a letter and a email and I also called them to let them know of the problem. I just received a reply that they are going to look into it, and they have forwarded it onto their marketing department ...

well, you better look into it, and see if USCC was having problems the night of the 15th, if they were, then I can understand. But I was there, and neither one of us had good service form columbus Ne to Fremont, could not make a call, receive text messages, nothing. when we got to fremont, our phones lit up with life and received about 6 text messages and several voicemails. So, probably USCC was having network issues.

My phone works, worked great all day today. this was definatley a USCC problem, no way around it.

And Yes, I am a trucker, and to be honest, I have not had issues like that, well, I cant remember. I travel nebraska, iowa, missouri, south dakota, minnesota, wisconsin, and illinois, and north dakota. I have to say ...

For Real, your all wrong, USCC is OWNED by TDS (Telephone Data System, LAN Line Carrier) and a Private Family (The Carlsons). You F-ing crazy if you think verizon can pony up the dough buy USCC. Profits last year were 2.93 Billion!!!!!! Dream Dream Dream! Then do research and prove yourself wrong!

Are you kidding me anyone can be bought with the right investors bakcin you. Verizon along with vodafone have enough moeny themselve if they really wanted. However they would get investors to help.

With that said they would not becouse it does not help them at all. They coverage overlaps too much and would have to divest to much.

have to agree with wombough on this one. US Cellular can be bought if someone wanted to do it, with the stocks higher, it would cost more to do so, but it can be done.

and as wombough said, I do not see any reason why verizon would want to buy USCC. They would be much better to go after alltel. Alltel has more area to fill in the gaps verizon does not have now. USCC would be more overlay, so USCC really does not have anything to offer verizon, except bad coverage in Nebraska, LOL. 🤣

so your telling me that if a private person owns more then 60% of the comapny and that stock is not traded on an open market that USCC can still be bought...........YOUR BOTH DUMBER THEN A BOX OF ROCKS. This is america not f-ing communist china tards. No one can force you to sell your business, lol. You are some stupid mofo's. Anyone can buy the shares that are traded on an open market, so I can own I percentage of U.S. Cellular, but I can't own the controlling share because SOMEONE ELSE OWNS IT AND HAS TO BE WILLING TO SALE IT. THINK THINK THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!

you will learn someday, that if there is enough money on the table, everything is for sale. AS for USCC, if someone offers enough money for their shares, they will sell. I am not saying that they will be forced to sell, I am saying that money talks, and with enough of it, they will sell, that is all. I am not saying they will be forced into a sell. If I did, then that is not what I meant.

I don't see it as a big time impossibility for Verizon to buy USCC. Verizon is pissed that they are the second largest in the nation, THEY WANT THE TITLE BACK! They will buy USCC just for the customers at whatever cost, Verizon's not stupid they want the customers... Thats the bottom line, along with the customers come thier revenue.. For Verizon they can buy USCC get rid of half the stores, which makes the customers worth more because there is less overhead. The fact that USCC is making money is just more fuel in the buyout fire... So pretty much what Verizon would be buying is.... MORE PAYCHECKS and the ablity to once again say, hey were the biggest.
