Can an Unlocked phone be used with Metro PCS?

Hi there,
I have a Motorola Razr through T-Mobile, lately my bill haven't been below 350-400$ a month, so the best and ONLY way for me is to go to Metro, however, I got so attached to my Razr.
I've been with T-Mobile for quite a long time so they gave me the "Unlock Code" for the Razr, will I be able to use the Razr on Metro PCS service just by giving them the ESN #? or do I have to see someone or contact someone to get it done?
Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Tim

You can only use a cellphone if it is from MetroPCS, Because metroPCS phones are based on there network and the way there pre-paid month plan is set-up. All metropcs phones even have a special menu in the phone called "MyMetro" where you can check your balance and payment options. The only way you can get another phone to work is if you can possibly get the metroPCS software onto the other phone and it is compatible with the network, you need a cellphone hacker to do all that.

now since its 2009, metropcs already have a program called metroflash which can make any phone that uses cdma to work with metropcs. cdma only. gsm don't work since they use sim cards. the only thing you can do on the phone is only normal text and calling since the configurations on the phone don't match the configurations for metropcs. i think metropcs will solve the problem soon and don't worry about using phones from other wireless companies because metropcs is starting to have sick phones and works great and its price isn't too much to pay for

MetroPCS will be getting Sim Card soon, so hopefully unlocked phones will work in the near future! 🙂

This issue has been resolved by adding a positive ESN list of only phones bought by metroPCS origionally. No verizon or virgin phone will be activated under this new policy, the system simply rejects it.

but if you clone the esn# of a good metro phone with another cdma phone it works just fine 🙂

maybe it would work if you cloned the esn but not all of the features would work correctly, and how many people out there actually know how to clone esn's on phones. and as far as metro getting sim cards, it will never happen, the network is a true cdma network and switching to gsm would require a whole new network.

First off MetroPCS is a CDMA gen3 CX2000 carrier so your GSM phone won't work with them.

2ndly no, you cannot bring a 3rd party phone into MetroPCS and activate it. Metro PCS uses both negative and positive ESN listing to make sure that only phone origionally bought by metroPCS and not blacklisted for any reason may be activated.

One of the advantages of centralizing all your phone purchases from one source that helps keep our monthly bills down...

Wow out of all those old post you were the first person to figure out a GSM phone would NOT work on a CDMA network. Not to mention you explained why

🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Like I tell my American custies "I dont care if they said your VZW phone will work in the UK I know for a fact it wont!" *Shows custies there is no space for a SIM card on their phone*

Let me break it down for you... T-Mobile Operates on 1900MHz spectrum using GSM technology... unlocked phones work on GSM networks... MetroPCS operates on the 1900MHz spectrum as well but using CDMA technology... unlocked phones are good for Cingular and T-Mobile.... You can use an unlocked phone by simply installing the SIM card into the phones... SIM cards are used on GSM networks... so in conclusion, your unlocked RAZR will not work with MetroPCS... However, maybe a Verizon RAZR would work since Verizon uses CDMA technology as well and operates on 1900MHz spectrum as well...hope this helps
