Wireless Portability Hell...

Just ported both my folks over from Sprint to Virgin. And EGADS, what a pain in the ass.

Lessons learned:

--You can't just activate a Virgin Mobile handset online and expect a wireless portability option to pop up. I tried activating the first of two new phones and got a brand new Virgin Mobile phone number. You have to call into Virgin to port any numbers from your old carrier. You cannot do this online. Is it 2002 again and nobody told me?

--The call centers are in India, so you're going to be speaking to Indian reps. Which I had no problem with, since Indians speak the Queen's English (and better English than anyone in South Florida). How do they handle themselves as reps? Well, some were going by a script and weren't much help....

IF my parents' service proves to be worthy of my money, I may switch to one of their plans when my contract is over with Verizon. That's IF Verizon doesn't offer similar plans in a year.

You can port your current number right online... you just missed it like I did the first time. Took all of 2 hours to port my number.

Missed it? No. I went step by step. No option to port my number was given to me. And when I called into Virgin, they said there is no option, that you have to call in to port numbers over.

So, either I'm an idiot, or Virgin's customer service sucks (which is most certainly does).

Perhaps they instituted the changes after I ported.

I know your post is old but I just went to the site and they now have it so you can switch your number from another company to VM online. They probably changed it after a while. At least now you know so if you decide to switch yours too you can do it easily online!
