Sprint or Verizon??

PatsFan

I've been with Verizon forever and I'm no longer under contract but I'm thinking of making the switch to Sprint. I love the BB 8330 that I saw (and used) @ a Sprint store. I couldn't believe how fast the internet svc was. Is Spints internet service faster than Verizons?
I know I'll have to pay a little more up front for the phone if I switch to Sprint but I liked the looks of their 8330 compared to the Verizon version. What do ya think? Make the switch or not? TIA

I'm biased since I work for Sprint. I do know that in MY area Sprint has better coverage by a significant amount. Due to the lack of coverage for Verizon the internet speeds suffer. Sprint's 3g speeds are great here. If the coverage is the same for both but Sprint's internet runs faster then Sprint should be your choice. I do believe that Verizon is a good company too. I would run coverage maps for both companies in ALL the areas you use your phone the most. People bash companies all the time because of lack of coverage where they need but they didn't check the coverage before signing up. For instance, AT&T is famous for poor signal and dropped calls in my area yet they're the leading wireless provider. Great company, just not here.

Okay. I was wondering if they had taken care of that. In any event. Let's say you leave Verizon for Sprint. (I recommend the Simply Everything plan. That's the one I would sign up for if I left Verizon for Sprint.) I just posted this to another forum, but it applies here as well so... Here is something which may help... With Sprint's Curve you are only able to send a picture message to an email address, not a phone number. Why don't you convert the phone number into an email address then? For example: Say you have a friend who has a Sprint phone and their number is (310)777-9311. Send an email to 3107779311@PM.SPRINT.COM. If your friend is with AT&T: Send it to 3107779311@MMODE.COM TMOBILE: 3107779311@TMOMAIL.COM and Verizon ...

A work around on that is to send yourself a picture mail via email. Send an email with a picture to your phone number at pm.sprint.com (ex. 555-555-5555@pm.sprint.com) then you will receive a link telling you that you've received new picture mail. Then just forward that link to someone else via text. Only catch is that person you're forwarding that link to has to have an internet plan or they'll get charged for use.

Verizons EVDO Rev A is as fast as Sprints, but is in more areas then Sprints, like 3 times the area.

I have Had Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, USCC, Alltel, and Verizon, the best was Verizon which i still have.

wrong just because you say so doesn't make it so. There is a recent study showing sprints on top. verizon has nothing to brag about on the data front. it has been that way for years.

In December, Gizmodo did its “Definitive coast-to-coast 3G data test” in which it compared the mobile broadband performance of Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and Sprint in eight cities across the U.S. and then published the results, which came up with a surprise winner: Sprint.

Gizmodo used comparable USB dongles from the big three U.S. cellular carriers to measure bandwidth in eight cities:

Just because this study shows this doesn't mean sprint always makes it like that. There's test out there where at&t has won and verizon has won. But verizon and sprint have the same burst speeds! Verizons EVDO is in 3 times the area as sprints. Plus verizon has the largest mobile 2 mobile calling network, the largest network coverage wise, we have the best world roaming rates and the most data roaming partners. We have the best customer service ratings and best call quality, we have the lowest churn level wich means more people are happy with verizon and don't switch while sprint had the higest churn level looseing almost 2 million customers! Doesn't seem like they were too happy huh?

Terrible Churn... 🙄

That's something this forum hasn't heard before. Cricket has a lower churn rate than Sprint too... Sadly for you, that doesn't have anything to do with their mobile broadband speeds. Same thing applys to every other company Sprint came out on top of in this testing. 😉

Cricket just has a lower churn rate because most folks with Cricket once had a Sprint phone but ran the bill up and couldn't pay it. Cricket is prepaid so they don't require a credit check or a deposit. All the people I know that have Cricket can't receive pix from Sprint customers and the coverage is horrible. Everywhere I get service they can't and supposedly they are using Sprint towers.

I agree with you about Verizon having better EVDO coverage in Mississippi, and I wouldn't offer Sprint Mobile Broardband to someone living their, but that's just common sense.

And I highly doubt that Verizon has decided to adopt the Alltel Unlimited Data usage practice. For one Verizon just bought out Alltel and it takes time to make these decisions, this from a leagacy Nextel employee who went through the merger, and for two, why would Verizion just all of a sudden decided that unlimited data usage is ok, when they were the first to decide to cap it? But I'm not worried, i'll be selling 4g/WiMAX data shortly, and you'll be waiting a year or two to sell it.

That's why they no longer brag that they have the largest voice coverage anymore, not even now with Alltel.
