Multiple Sprint employees have confirmed to PhoneNews.com that, effective tomorrow, Sprint will charge customers $1 per day to browse some web site web sites outside of the Vision home page portal. Below is the memo direct from Sprint:

Accessing Third Party Websites Customers will be charged $1.00 per day for accessing some websites from their phone that are not part of the Vision home page.

"Customers: All Vision and Power Vision customers

Effective 1/22/07, customers will be charged $1.00 per day to access some third party websites. The customer will be prompted with an advice of charge page indicating the cost is $1.00 for 24 hours access. The customer can...

Sprint employees have been able to confirm that at-launch this will only affect two web sites; 3gforfree.com and GritsandEggs.com. Sprint is apparently testing charging for access to known content download web sites. This is in an effort to recover costs from users who bypass Sprint's built-in content store

Gotta love being charged for the same thing over and over and over.

What a load.

I find a few problems they can't start yesterday as they have to give 30 day notice. And I went to the site for giggles and was not prompted for any charge. Guess we will see.

😈 👿
So becuase I choose to visit sites outside of the Sprint portal I'm to pay $1! What crap, I'm seriously thinking of switching now! That's total BS in my opinion! So what I don't want to pay $2.50 to use a ringtone for 90 days, WTF 🙄 🙄 🙄

How do people still think that ringtones delete themselves after 90 days.

They dont, the 90 days is the time the purchase is valid, as in, you can re-download it anytime within 90 days.

And, at least theyre not stopping you from going to those sites, which they could.. as im sure thats not an approved site.

So, you can't redownload them for free after 90 days? I thought that was still the case, but another cust swore that you could now redownload something free YEARS after having purchased it.

Sprint employee and see no M&P's listed for this, no internal documentation, no e-mail for this, it said it was to be effect 1/22 its not 1/23 and still not effective. So I as a Sprint employee I am gonna call BS.

Phonenews.com jumps on board with things too fast and is somewhat unreliable, I can remember several instances of them calling things too fast, like the iPhone was slated for Verizon, and Sanyo 7600 going to be released for Christmas '06. Need I keep going?

Worst case scenario, you can hop on roaming and download all you want if it does become true.

This is the update from phonenews. Wheather its tru or not it looks like Morron-up forgot to add it to his post!:

Update: The 23rd has come and users are reporting the fee has not taken effect. eCare continues to confirm the fee, but others have confirmed to PhoneNews.com that media coverage of the fee has prompted Sprint to cancel the trial at this time. Sprint officials declined to comment.

I don't know when it goes into effect and I don't know about the EFT out, but a document did come out yesterday in sprint communications stating this information. I haven't tried browsing to the websites, but I did see this information on official sprint communications...I think it really sucks too.

see but the thing is Sprint has no way to prevent access to those websites if your on data roam. There are always ways around it even if it goes into effect.

No ETF-out for this issue. access is granted to sprint web site. If you access another website you will be notified of the $1 charge and have the option of going there. If you accept you are billed. If you do not access you are not billed thats it in a nutshell.

no way. I call BS on people about the pay per usage on texts. That is there should be no ETF. But I pay for unlimited. Let me say it again Unlimited vision usage and if I have to pay another charge to access a website through vision I believe that is a big change in service.

i have an official email from my call-center director CONFIRMING this charge for a few 3rd party sites, beginning on the 22nd of this month.

unless it has been reversed since yesterday, the charge is confirmed, as far as i am concerned.

i suggest you all assume it is true, until the 23rd comes and there are no charges.

sorry to bring the bad news, but then again, i dont feel sorry for people who cant go to 3gfor free...

also, anyone think about trying a different route to get to them? maybe a tinyurl or some sort of proxy?
